Hey hey HEYYYYYYY! At about 29:30 seconds, you review The Protectors from NYC Comics, and point out how the bottom of the pages are used to contain little summaries of the creators' works. I'm one of those creators! I'm Alan White, and the book it's describing was called POWERPLAY. I revived that book 7 seven years ago and it's now called The Power Principle! May I post the comic's webpage?

Happy 1st Birthday Cartoonist Kayfabe!!! This was the first episode I saw. Discovered it while I was home sick from work one day earlier this year. This was the start of my new obsession with tracking down 80’s B&W indie and Outlaw Comics. Now I’ve watched almost every episode and bought hundreds of new comics you guys recommended. THANK YOU JIM & ED!!! Here’s to year #2!

Around 7:50, Homage comics was an imprint of Wildstorm/Image, started in 1995 for comics where the writer was meant to be the selling point rather than the artist. Astro City, Leave it to Chance and Strangers in Paradise were their most notable titles prior to the DC buyout. Their publishing was sporadic after that - Sam Keith and Warren Ellis did some stuff under the imprint in the 2000s.

Ring of Roses is drawn by John Watkis?! Holy cow! Watkis is from the U.K. He had a meteoric career thru comics before becoming a development artist at Disney. Steve Worthington introduced me to his work in the late 90s. Watkis’ DC work particularly is amazing.

Loved those old Beavis and Butt-head comics back in the day. Rik's gross gunky drawings mixed with the clean on model B+B style was pretty cool. Been searching for them at comic marts myself but no luck so far.

Rick Parker is a very cool dude, and a friend. He's living in Portland, ME now, and is doing cons on the east coast this summer. He's done hand lettering for some recent P. Craig Russell (and Neil Gaiman) stuff, has done stuff for Papercutz, has a couple of self published things out right now. He's working on a graphic novel of his 2 years in the US Army, which he posts pages of on Facebook.

Brinke Stevens was a B-Movie/Scream Queen actress. Other than Brinke of Destruction her other connection to comics is that she was the ex-wife of Dave Stevens, and modelled Betty for him. Notably the eye popping "Wow" moment.

That Mythos comic was drawn by Nils Osmar. He use to teach a Sequential Art class through the Experimental College at the University of Washington back in the early 90's. As part of the class, he gave each student a copy of his comic.

Bump for me to follow this thread. Fat Jacks in Rittenhouse has half decent back issues with some 80s Eclipse/First/Comico/etc included, but not plentiful and not dirt cheap. A lot of the other Philly stores have shitty back issue selections. Odd for a big city
@CartoonistKayfabe5 жыл бұрын
A lot of stores dumped a lot of their back issues in the 2000s-2010s. I think the market fell out of the back issue business (at least the 80s-90s books), and it wasn't worth the cost of warehousing those back issues, especially in cities where space was more expensive. There are a few warehouses around the country like Joe Koch Warehouse (Brooklyn?), mycomicshop.com (Texas), Mile High Comics (Denver), New Dimension Comics (Pittsburgh), plus some scattered shops here and there. I think there are a few in Ohio and Portland. There's a good one in southern CA that I've seen pictures of. Bender's in Norfolk, VA is worth a stop if you're ever within an hour or two of that place...
