When I started bluing guns at a Rifle Shop in Palmdale, CA, the first thing I learned was the way light reflection and refraction could be manipulated by the polishing of the metal without removing much material. Incandescent bulbs are much better because they have a broader spectrum of light than LED bulbs or fluorescent lights.

For the support stand, the base could be made from an old car brake rotor or drum. Hit it with a high pressure sprayer to clean it off, follow up with layers of plasti-dip or bed liner to keep the rust off. Pipe flange and thread black iron pipe, to make the rest of it.

Thanks for the video. I think it's cool that y'all share these kinds of videos. Just ordered a Woodsrunner. Now the wait begins. I have a Colonial and an SMR. For years, I wanted a Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken or a Rocky Mountain Hawken. I almost bought one in 2013. It would have cost about 800 bucks shipped. Something came, and it had to wait. After the right time came and i was able to get one, the price had gone a good bit, but ya could find one anywhere. Im kinda glad because that's how i came about getting my Colonial .58 Smoothbore, and I just love that gun. Then came the SMR, tack drive. Im new to flintlocks and shooting patched balls. I found the other gunsvi spoke about and I'm able to purchase one. Ive read so many good things about the Woodsrunner. A good freind on the fourm talked highly about his Woodsrunner. After think about a few days i decided the best thing to do is to forget the Pedersoli, buy the Woodsrunner and what for the Kibler Hawken Kit. I know i made the right choice. Plus assembling your own gun is a great feeling. Thanks to the Kibler Family.

I found my old Luxo-style desk light from college. No base, but a shaft on the end. In homage to Jim, when I built my new work bench, I drilled holes about every 12” along its 16’ length so I could move the lamp anywhere I was working 😉

Been working on my Fowler today. Filing down the butt-plate casting sprues then polishing it. Cut off the sprue on the entry pipe, then polished it. Fit the trigger plate, had to so some slight cutting on the wood. Finally found what was keeping the thumb piece from setting flush and got that taken care of. Next, fitting the pin for the trigger, fitting the barrel (sits high at the breech) and working on the finish to that fine walnut stock I got from you all.

I looked up that Gressel bench vise -- very nice! -- but figure that's money I'd best squirrel away for the future Hawken.

I use a wax ring for toilets on any project that I am doing at the time. If you need a dozen screws stick them in the ring and pull them out as needed. The wax fills the threads and driving them is easy. Even for 3 and 4 inch screws.
