I read the book Edie after hearing this song for the first time. She was doomed from the start. Her rich family had her commited several times and killed her free spirit. I'm sure after all she went through, she was a total wack job, never had a chance, poor thing. But she'll live forever in this great song.

It's quite the sad song if you know who Edie Sedgwick (1943-1971) was. Many went the chemical distance during that era but Edie was one of the most extreme. She'd be in the "27 club" except she kept surviving the overdoses until she was 28.

Beyond good and evil I thought was a great album.was starting a detox from methadone an smack .the words to one song about standing on a mountain with my back against the world etc an now I left it behind lm standing on this mountain ohh can’t remember the words but it was about facing the world!!! Great song . Rare cult is awesome

Way easier to listen to than the album version. The Cult is always at their best when they work hard on their songs & then record them as naturally as possible. Ian's voice sounds pretty frazzled here after touring on the 'Electric' album. He recovers years after - I like his vocals on 'Beyond Good And Evil" an album that exceeded a lot of their earlier studio work & the record company ignored it.
