Used to watch the Lombard RAC rally in the 80's here in the UK. There was a special stage that ran through a local forest (Kielder) at night and that machine was always at the front. Either that or the Audi Coupe Quattro. The Lancia piloted by the legendary Juha Kankkonen from Finland. Was fantastic listening to the sound as it approached in pitch dark, on a loose stone single track surface and at speeds that defied physics. The red-hot glow of the brake discs was a great sight too. Special, special drivers. The Northern Europeans were magicians in those cars.
