I was born after this Golden Age of music (in '78), but having learned more about these amazing artists and how they left us way too soon, I find myself feeling the same kinds of emotion you and others here describe. There is a KZbin Creator going by Professor of Rock - on the daily he releases videos profiling songs and artists, and I don't know if he's covered Jim Croce, but I think that if the genre suits his format (I think it does), he'd be well served to consider a few videos on Jim and his amazing music. To the runners of this official channel, thank you for sharing this intimate look at this amazing singer-songwriter, one of my favorites since youth! His son, A.J., is now 50 and also a singer-songwriter - he is ALSO amazing and sounds just like his father in many respects! (His single cover of I Got A Name - WOWWWWW.)

50 years ago tonight, Jim Croce, along with his longtime guitarist and studio partner Maury Muehleisen (shown with him here in the video) would play a ten song set at the Prather Coliseum at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. An hour after the concert, they and four others would board a small Beechcraft plane at the Natchitoches airport bound for Sherman, Texas. It would barely clear the runway before clipping a pecan tree and crashing, killing all on board. Jim was 30 years old. Maury was 24. Days after the accident, Jim’s wife Ingrid would receive a letter in the mail from him, talking about feeling tired of the grind of the road, contemplating quitting the music business and wanting to head home to be with her and son A.J and be a family man. In it, he concluded, _“Give a kiss to my little man and tell him Daddy loves him. Remember, it’s the first sixty years that count and I’ve got 30 to go.”_ We’ll obviously never know what might have been, but in a short time Jim created a musical legacy that is still cherished to this day. Keeping resting peacefully Jim and Maury and take pride in knowing humanity is still loving your music a half century after you parted this world.

All of my favorites were taken far too young, Jim Croce, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens. I love them all but something so special about Croce. My name is Silky Slim and I'm a blues bass player and singer from Chicago and Leroy Brown was a good friend of mine,.. and hung out at the Blues clubs on the northside with us and sang sometimes with. Eddie Clearwater ,..and we always talked about this Jim Croce song (Rest in Peace to Leroy)...he died of cancer,..he was sick and disappeared for a while..and came back to the club one night before he died to say goodbye to everyone...we miss you Leroy !!!

@@richman360 It was more in reference to the autotune, than anythng else, but when a singer can perform at this level without a band, it's usually because the talent is substantially higher than many of today's noise makers. Record yourself singing a'cappella sometime, then listen back. If you aren't on top of your game it'll make you cringe.

@@bryanphillips6666 Maurice T. "Maury" Muehleisen was an American musician, songwriter, and artist best known for his studio work, live accompaniment, and impact on the music of Jim Croce. He died in the same plane crash that killed Croce. An interesting tidbit about Maury & Croce's musical involvement is that Croce was initially intended to be Maury's backup. The studio was actually in the process of producing Maury as a solo artist & Croce was to be his backup guitarist. Croce continued to write & record his own material while they worked together. Either Croce's songwriting abilities turned the focus to him or one of his released singles started burning up the airways. What I do know, is that it all happened VERY fast & almost to the point that it must have been hard for them to fully react & prepare for. That surely has to be the reason that most, if not all, of Croce's live performances only included him & Maury with no backup band. RIP Jim Croce & Maury Muehleisen. Tragically gone WAY too soon!!!!!!! I would have loved to hear the songs & music you guys would have continued to create together!!!!!!!

I loved this incredible man's music! (Still do). I'll never forget that I was in high school and was in the cafeteria on lunch break. Someone had a transistor radio (remember those?) turned on when the news broke about the plane crash and Jim Croce's death. There was a big reaction from those also in hearing range of the radio and I was one of them. My heart broke in what felt like a million pieces. This wonderful man was gone. And he was just getting started on that phase of his music career. I had a couple of his 45s, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and I Got a Name. Remember when the record company issued his greatest hits album. I rushed and buy me a copy and when I saw the photo of Jim's son with a deeply sad look on his face He was holding his father's cowboy hat. Time in a Bottle was another of his songs l loved. Jim Croce had a face and voice I've never forgotten. Thank you, God for sharing him with us even for a short time.

When I was 11 this was the 1st song I ever danced to in public (a big deal at that age). It was 1973 in a little cafe with a jukebox in the corner. I still listen to his music and I'm so grateful he had a chance to record these musical gems. I'm so sorry for the struggle he, Ingrid and AJ had, being that the greedy record companies totally ripped them off. Here he is performing these songs and the record producer parasites wouldn't allow Jim or his family to profit from his hard work and talent.

What a treat to stumble upon. My mom introduced me to Jim's music when I was young. I had just picked up the guitar and was still looking for identity with music. Every night I would fall asleep listening to Jim Croce's Greatest Hits, trying to figure out his guitar playing. I'm 17 and I have always been into older music and I recently discovered Jim. I immediately fell in love with his music with Walkin' Back to Georgia being the first I heard. I was bummed when I learned he passed so suddenly from such a devastating thing. Although he is very popular, I believe if he wasn't taken so soon he would have been much more legendary. I think I remember crying when I heard about his death. My wife is an incredible artist, and did a charcoal sketch of Jim and gave it to me for Christmas that year. We still have that sketch. Makes me smile every time I look at it. The 1st 45 i ever bought, also the 1st album ,(an 8 track actually). No one has ever told a story better.All these years later he still can move us. I still believe these two were headed for greatness like few others have attained. May they REST IN PEACE. and thanks for the amazing music!
