Thank you so much for this! I'm feeling really confident about my jazz band audition tonight, all except for this scale. Somehow, despite playing trombone of all instruments, I've always struggled with chromatic scales. Seeing it slowed down and broken up like this helped a lot!

Yeah it was in two octaves. The low E he played was just before the Low D. If he played the low D it would have been in three octaves.

@trombonistshantanu5 жыл бұрын
@@tspawn35 7th, not 6th, is the very end of your reach on a normal tenor trombone. 6th is slightly before that. tuning the notes is the best way to figure out your specific positions that are specific to you on your mouthpiece in the instance since everything changes all the time but figuring out the positions once on a trombone with that mouthpiece should be good enough

Swaggg I have symphonic band try outs and we are doing F and Ab major with chromatic and I’m probably only going to play to the hight C but I’ve found after F it’s easier to memorize if you use alternative positions starting in 7 6 5 4 3 2 etc

Can someone tell me the slide numbers along with the notes I have been practicing this in band but i need to write this down so i can play faster
I've actually been lucky and hit a double high F twice in the span of over a year. I haven't hit it since.

I hit it once during a lesson when I got mad I couldn’t play a high d flat ironically enough
@koalanectar93823 жыл бұрын
How the hell do you play this instrument?? Like I can kind of get trumpets and saxophones, but god this always baffles me.
@jimdugal3 жыл бұрын
Trumpets and trombones are similar in the fact that the tightness of your lips will dictate what notes come out. for the trombone there are air columns. Each one basically has seven notes on it but the higher you get the positions become closer to each other. Yes the first year playing this instrument was definitely rough. Especially when I started to learn how to slur. Watch my video on slurring. Try to find a good private teacher to help you…But most of all practice! Good luck!
@koalanectar93823 жыл бұрын
@@jimdugal Thank you for the info I'm super fascinated by this instrument. It just seems so foreign to me because I come from the world of piano and guitar where a half step is always one key or fret away. I used to think the trombone just changed pitch solely by changing the length of the tube, like blowing into a soda bottle with different amounts of liquid inside. I never knew it had anything to do with how your lips are moving. Really interesting.
