All 3 groups are totally different...I never compare them. Voice Play is fun and theatrical. Pentatonix is very technical and precise. Home Free is country. I love them all!
@MuriKakari3 жыл бұрын
Geoff once described Voiceplay as Pentatonix but sillier. Following that, Home Free would be Pentatonix, but tailgating (country and partying). Or in other words, at Acapella High, Pentatonix are the Student Council, Voiceplay is the Theater Nerds, and Home Free are the guys throwing a party in the parking lot.

You are one of the few reaction vids that really acknowledges Layne's beatbox skills. It still catches me off-guard sometimes when I look and realize that no, that's not a drum machine, that's a human voice! Also, if you like the bass singer, Geoff Castellucci has his own channel, and his covers of 16 Tons and of Blackbird are absolutely amazing.

Welcome to the ridiculous, crazy, amazingness of the rabbit hole that is the modern Acappella with PTX, Voiceplay, and Home Free. I adore all three and am so glad you enjoy this medley. I think it shows off just how FUN Voiceplay is and what they put into all their videos! Wonderful reaction, will have fun following you down this fun insanity! If you want more fun from any of these groups: Voiceplay: Really any of their "in 5 minutes" medley are super fun, but their version of Carry On Wayward Son is pretty new and super fun and shows more the "serious" side. Honestly probably can't go wrong with any of them, and if you are ok with nostalgic Disney (or not so nostalgic) their Disney medley are really well done and fun as well if you enjoy the playful side. PTX (shortened Pentatoix): Also hard to pick specific suggestions, you have done 2 of my favorites already. Their version of Sound of Silence is really good, and Imagine is also a must-see in my opinion, but again hard to go wrong with any of them really. (That's pretty much a theme here) Home Free: Some of their newest stuff are must-sees. When a Man Loves a Woman, American Pie are the first two that come to mind, but their Ring of Fire with Avi (the pass you liked who was with PTX), which is older is also AMAZING. Much like I said with the others, it's hard to really go WRONG with any of their stuff either. Also, other people have already mentioned it I see, but if you want more of Geoff (the bass you really liked here) his solo stuff (thinking specifically Blackbird, High and Dry, and the newest Sixteen Tons) show off his range and ability and are amazing covers. They aren't acapella specifically but totally worth listening to.

Members of Voiceplay: Tenor 1: Earl Elkins Jr. (He left the group in July of 2020) He was the guy in the hospital bed in this video Tenor 2: Eli Jacobson- he was the bald dude in this who you said was a ‘firecracker’ Baritone: J.None- He was the black dude who had the first solo in this Beat boxer/Vocal Percussion: Layne Stein- He was the guy who disappeared first towards the end and he can do many sound effects that blow peoples minds Bass: Geoff Castellucci- Kind of obvious who he was in this, the guy that blows your speakers and short circuits your brain with either his ground shaking bass, or him showing off his range. He has a 5, almost 6, octave range and he does some leads in songs like “Oogie Boogie Song” and “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” So that’s everybody. Voiceplay is personally my favorite acapella group and Geoff is my favorite, but I love all of them. I hope to see you do more reactions to them in the future.
@rio54393 жыл бұрын
Great reaction, got a new sub! I wanna suggest their "Boy Bands in 5 minutes" medley, they have so much fun in that one. Honestly all of their work is amazing, can't go wrong with VoicePlay... especially if you love Disney songs for example in their "ACA Top 10 Disney Villains/Heroes" or Helloween classics like "This is Helloween", they do lots of those and always have such great theatrics and costumes on top of their amazing arrangement and singing skills! If you find time and since you seem to like basses showing off their skills, maybe react to songs from their bass, Geoff Castellucci, he has a solo channel where he recently started putting out solo covers where he harmonizes with himself and shows off his insane 5 octave range, it'll blow your mind. btw, to the story of this video: Earl, their tenor in the hospital bed, has some kind of near death experience/is in a coma and through that meets several gods/entities from different cultures that represent death. Those seem to fight over who gets his soul, but in the end he in fact defeats them and wakes up from the "coma" and lives to the relief of his spouse.

I really liked yours especially, because you went into the parts you liked and that caught your attention, rather than just sitting and watching passively. Please, please do more Voiceplay! Also, if you like bass, check out their bass, Geoff Castellucci's solo channel. His production of Sixteen Tons is even billed as a Low Bass Cover. And for more of him with the group, check out Oogie Boogie's Song and the Little Mermaid Medley. For an amazing production, Warriors is stunning. VoicePlay is best when they mash their vocals with their sense of humor. This was inspired by a health scare one of them had. Welcome to the acapella rabbit hole!
@wendischambach61813 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reacting to this. I'm glad you're not disappointed. As a fan of Queen, I figured you'd be at least impressed with their cover. Their transitions are seamless and the arrangements are spectacular, some of the best. Geoff is their bass and he is rumored to have a 5 octave range. You get glimpses of it here and, if you heed the advice from others below, "Oogie Boogie" will showcase it in his run at the end of that. Pentatonix is probably the most well-known acapella group and are pretty straight forward in their performances. To see their sense of humor, you need to watch either Superfruit (Scott and Mitch's channel) or the side videos to the fans. VoicePlay is more theatrical with various members having worked for some of the Florida theme parks. However, they usually weave their sense of humor throughout their performances. The same can be said of Home Free. They just have fun with it. Home Free isn't as theatrical and often has a more country flavor to their arrangements. Home Free's bass Tim, like Geoff, has about a 5 octave range as well. For a treat using some crossovers, check out Home Free's "Ring of Fire" cover featuring Avi Kaplan, the bass from Pentatonix and VoicePlay's "Just Sing," featuring well everybody. Also, Voctave's "Disney Love Medley" featuring Pentatonix's Kirstie Maldonado (and her then-fiance' Jeremy) will introduce you to an acapella group that does not have a beatboxer, is a little more operatic, but highly talented and enjoyable (also with Florida theme park experience). And for Voctave, you have to listen to their "Great Movie Medley." VoicePlay does a lot of 'medleys' and 'mashups' which are incredible arrangements and none of them are bad: boy bands, disney villains, disney sidekicks, disney heroes, billie eilish, twenty-one pilots...Pentaonix also has several 'evolution' videos that are excellent medley mashups: music, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande,...To see the original, go back the 11th performance of Pentatonix on the SingOff; it's a classic. In fact cover the Home Free and Pentatonix journeys there. It lets you see how each group kind of came into their sound (for Pentatonix, they had literally just come together 1 day prior to their try-out for the show). Enjoy the acapella rabbit hole and we're happy to have you along for the ride.

And although it took me a few times to really appreciate it, check out the mash up between Home Free and VoicePlay. It is the song Survivor, and they put it together after the sing off or they both appeared and Home Free won. They were supposed to do it for the sing off I believe and it didn’t work out so they decided to do it on their own. It’s called zombies versus hillbillies and it’s just about as crazy as it sounds!

Hi Jim, when I think of the 3 groups I see Voiceplay w/ a more theatrical flare, Home Free with their country flare, and Pentatonix has an all around general acapella group. I don't see how anyone can compare the groups, while they are acapella they sing or preform so different. Also, to put your mind at ease, the guy did live at the end. His eyes popped open. When you see him in the dark then it becomes all white, I believe that to be his eyes opening to the light in the room. :) I worked in health care a long time so the first time I saw this I was watching his face at the end and his eyes flutter open. Thanks for your reviews, I watched your Home Free video and that is a great video as well. OH, while it's not halloween, if you want to hear the bass, Geoff, sing a majority of a song check out Oogie Boogie's Christmas (something like that lol) It's from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I've never seen it, but my oldest loves it and remember hearing some of the songs and Oogie Boogie is one of them. Anyway, enjoy your day!

Yep, they really are this good, and this is their style - kind of musical theatre-style story videos with their amazing vocals. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has a five-octave range - you HAVE to hear 'Oogie Boogie Song' - Geoff takes lead in that one and makes good use of those five octaves. Oh, and 'This Is Halloween,' 'Boy Bands in Five Minutes' and so many more... And yes, I used to have trouble believing the beatboxing was actually being done by a human voice. But there's another KZbinr called Xureck who's reacted to some Pentatonix songs and often demonstrates what Kevin does in real time, so you can see it's possible to do (but you have to be hella skilled, and it must take huge stamina.)

I'd also highly *highly* recommend checking out Geoff Castellucci (the bass singer) and his solo work. His rendition of 16 Tons is flawless, and if you want a better sense of his range, both Blackbird and Radiohead's High and Dry will demonstrate his full range. Spoiler- it's around 5 octaves, all rich and resonant and without a lot of thinning out at the extreme edges. His talent is devastating.
