As always, I appreciate your hard work on this series!...A quoted reviewer gave some misleading info regarding Hendrix's guitar-burning...He only did that three times in his career, no more after 1967. It seems a few reviewers/audience folks thought that when Jimi would straddle his guitar on the stage floor, that he was burning it!...Not so...those claiming to see Jimi do the burning thing, were likely a little too high to have good judgment!..lol. Jimi himself, in later interviews, stated that he "only did that fire thing, two or three times".

I don't think he liked Jimi Hendrix. What I always thought and still do is what an absolutely useless person a "music critic" is. What makes their opinion superior to anyone else? The other "music critics" had good reviews. I hear people make disparaging remarks about Justin Bieber.I don't think I've heard any of his music, but there are a lot of people that do like him. Is their opinion less valid than sombody that doesn't like him? Music Critic= totally useless.

@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW - well…once I realized Jimi was coming i scrambled into action: I was 16 and had my drivers license but I wasn’t confident about driving to Houston - from Baytown where I lived (it was only 30 miles or so) so I started calling some friends. My best friend, Rick - a guitar player who turned me on to Hendrix in the spring of ‘69 - was working and couldn’t go. After a few no-gos I called one of my high school cheerleaders, John, who agreed to take me if I bought his ticket. Happily I forked over the $12 for two tickets. Not great seats but not bad either. Sam Houston Coliseum was not packed by any stretch but there was a good sized crowd. We sat behind a couple who had both marijuana AND, more importantly (for me), a pair of of binoculars - which they gladly loaned me for the entire show! I was transfixed on Jimi for the duration of the concert. I was a drummer - and most of my concert experiences were me paying extra close attention to what the drummers were doing. Not this show - I was soaking up as much “experience” as I could. I remember a couple of times during the show that Mitch & Billy dropped out - letting Jimi just solo. It was fantastic. At the end of the show Jimi announced it would be his last song and he was going to play, “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” but I was hoping he meant, “Voodoo Chile,” a longer song and thus longer to be able to see, hear, and feel Jimi for a longer period. At the end of the show Jimi walked down the three or four steps from the stage to the floor then collapsed - couple of guys (roadies?) carried him away and that was it. His death a few months later was shocking for me and I mourned his passing while none of my friends/clasmates seemed to know or care at all.

@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW - once I found out Hendrix was coming to town (that very day) I scrambled to find a ride. Although I was 16 yrs old and had my drivers license I wasn’t comfortable driving to Houston from Baytown where I lived. Plus, I had no car! My best friend, Rick, who introduced me to Jimi in the spring of ‘69, and who took me to just about every concert I’d attended couldn’t go as he’d just begun working at Village Inn Pizza that very week. I called a couple other friends who were either busy or not interested. Finally, I called one of my high school’s cheerleaders, John Anderson, who agreed to take me if I bought his ticket. I figured $12 (2 tickets @ $6.00 each) was not too much to pay to see JIMI HENDRIX!! We didn’t have great seats but we’re fortunate to be seated behind a hippie couple who had both weed AND a pair of binoculars - which they loaned me for the duration of the concert (they were really, really stoned). I trained those binocs on Jimi and was completely transfixed by the (pardon my pun) Experience. I was a drummer during that time period and usually watched the drummers but I just couldn’t get enough of Jimi. The concert ended way too quickly to suit me and, in fact, when he announced the last song was going to be, “Voodo Child (Slight Return),” I was hoping he meant, “Voodoo Chile,” a much longer song. Of course it was the shorter, “Voodoo Child,” but wow - was it good?! When the show ended Jimi walked down the few steps from the stage to floor and collapsed - he was then carried off by roadies. So glad to have seen the phenom in person - forever grateful I got the chance.

@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW A friend of mine was at the June 10, 1970 Evansville show, but doesn't recall much about it. He hadn't become a guitar nerd yet. He did say there were equipment problems and Jimi was late coming on. There continued to be Radio Frequency Interference from the Marshall amps throughout the show. Jimi was playing his white Stratocaster. I stumbled onto a very low quality audience recording of the Evansville show several years back. But the audio was so poor it was difficult to get much from it. I believe this show was an add on to the planned itinerary. Which was quite common at the time.

I'll never understand how the media & critics can go from hot to cold show after show when none of them could even tune a guitar let alone play one & play one as Jimi did. Why critics get paid for lame reviews will always be a mystery.
