You might want to add Kris Kristofferson to that list of icons that served in the military post WW 2. His service, IMO, is certainly worth an examination too

@@mattpierre891 Kris Kristofferson's served in the U.S.. Army from 1960 to 1965. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served as a helicopter pilot and completed both Ranger and Airborne schools. He was NOT in Special Forces. He served in the then West Germany with the 8th Infantry Division based at the Rose Barracks in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Disappointed that he was not allowed to fight in Vietnam, he resigned his position in 1965 as a Captain.

I played guitar before and after the Army. I had my Strat in my barracks room, but usually sealed in a case in my wall locker because I was deployed. The Army kept my hands and mind too busy for much guitar playing, during those years. But its been a balm on my soul and a doorway to wonderful places ever since. Some people are soldiers, some are guitar players, some are a little of both, most are virtually none of either....Its ok, Jimi, the 101 was never the place for you. Go play your guitar.

It was very common all over America for guys who got into nuisance immature crime were told to join their choice of which branch of the Military so they could grow up a little. It tended to work out well. It was extremely rare for someone to pretend to be Gay to avoid or get out on the Military. There were precisely zero "Out" Homosexuals even in California then. When Harvey Milk Came out about 1970 it was death defying feat.

I find it almost impossible to believe that Hendrix made 26 jumps, especially as a supply clerk, with only 13 months in service. In the past I've looked and there is no known evidence he even went to jump school. When Hendrix was in the 101st there were units that weren't on jump status and I wouldn't be surprised if he was assigned to one of those units.
@shable143618 күн бұрын
He jumped only a handful of times

He was a musical genius, nothing can be taken from that, and it's not like he hurt women, or kids, and billy cox said he just dressed weird, and was shy, but liked the girls, so not really home, just knew the loopholes, knew he was going to be shipped over nam, and instead of running away like so many did, got out legally on a technicality. I bet lots of men were faking that back then, does anyone know when that changed?
