@@johntchb you think? It’s funny how I used to hate playing in band when they forced us to in school, but now that I’m playing guitar on my own I’ve become obsessed. I try to get at least an hour a day, if I get the chance I’ll go for 6 straight. Can’t read sheet or understand music theory yet, but I find I have a good ear and so KZbin and tabs combined do the trick.

Dear Marty, you have a new guitar lover, Purple Haze was the very first Jimi Hendrix song I acquired in December 1969, Jimi past away a few months after, I was barely 10 years old and listened to it over and over until I bought his first opus "Are You Experienced" this LP was a slap in the face, but when I first listened to the second "Axis: Bold A Love" on acid then I realized the extent of Hendrix's genius, so I bought all the records of this great artist who died too soon. It's very hard for me to say which Jimi song I like the most (I love them all, whether it's his own compositions or covers), the only thing I can say is that "The Wind Cries Mary" is definitely one among many others I always wanted to be able to play on guitar, and the way you dispensed the technique of this most poetic song is just wonderful and brilliant in its simplicity. I thank you for it, because finally I could really learn it in its entirety thanks to the two videos made with a rare pedagogy. Thanks again

I’ve tried learning this by tab several times with no success, I sit down and use this video and pretty much have the solo nailed after one play through (stopping and rewinding where I need to, getting the timing of the blues lick is a killer for me). Thanks for posting good content and breaking the solos into easy to remember sections
@jhandle41969 ай бұрын
I saw a video; wish I could find it again, of Jimi playing this live in a studio with a small audience, and it showed the fingering he used to play the "Don't Let Me Down" lick at the end of the solo. (16:15). Knowing Jimi, he may have played it both ways depending on how he felt that day, but in this case, instead of playing it how shown anchored on the 10th fret of the D string, Jimi anchored on the 15th fret of the A string, and hammered on the 17th. then the third note of the phrase on the D string/15th fret has above it on the 15th fret/G and B strings the rest of the B flat major triad that can be played as a double, or even triple stop. Then while still anchored it walks down to the 17th fret of the E string to double-stop it with the anchored A string/15th fret. which then is all set up to glissando down the E and A strings to start the next verse. Try it. You'll like it.

Hey man, could never get that roadhouse lick quite right. Thanks for setting me on the straight and narrow. You've got no idea how happy it makes me to have this solo down now. Thank you!!!
@SeemsLikeSomething4 жыл бұрын
That lick is definitely the trickiest in the bunch because he times it very unlike how we tend to learn the lick in blues. He does the bend, then does a sorta 4 - 3 sorta grouping. Took me some time also to really slow it down and see where the notes land in the beat to understand it. Now that i understand it, it's no prob. But at first, yikes, a real pickle. Lol

Marty I hear the first part of the solo differently. He slides up to the F on the 15th fret 4th string the first time…….but while he does then play the 4th interval on the 1st and 2nd strings at the 13th fret as you show….C and F…….he then quickly hammers on the C note to the D on the 15th fret so it’s now D and F. Plus he slides down quickly after that. Other than that, nicely done as always. You have a great feel.
