If an out-of-order segment arrives with a higher sequence number, TCP sends a duplicate ACK indicating the next expected byte. In the case of a segment filling a gap in the receiver window, a cumulative acknowledgment is sent. The video also explains retransmission scenarios, where TCP retransmits segments if ACKs are lost or if there is a premature timeout.
