I love that he has a textbook on online teaching on his desk, I take it as a hint that he is eager to improve his teaching skills in these times!

to summerize : This video discusses the reliability of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and its mechanisms for ensuring data transfer. TCP implementations often wait for another in-order segment to arrive before acknowledging the expected sequence number, reducing the amount of ACK traffic. If an out-of-order segment arrives with a higher sequence number, TCP sends a duplicate ACK indicating the next expected byte. In the case of a segment filling a gap in the receiver window, a cumulative acknowledgment is sent. The video also explains retransmission scenarios, where TCP retransmits segments if ACKs are lost or if there is a premature timeout. TCP Fast Retransmit is introduced as an optimization that allows the sender to quickly retransmit the oldest unacknowledged segment upon receiving three duplicate ACKs. The video concludes by mentioning that the mechanisms discussed in the video are used in practice by TCP and will be further explored in the study of the HTTP 3 protocol.
