Excellent, loving rendition of one of his brother's songs.

It’s actually a Larry Davis song and Stevie’s version is based on Fenton Robinson’a version.
@cozmowiz55932 ай бұрын
Thats not exactly whats going on. Larry Davis wrote this song, Jimi learned it via Roomfull of Blues in this similar style while Stevie made it to fit his style in another version. No one ever gives the writers credit even after Stevie bringing Larry on stage to play his song for stevie.

Stevie also made sure Larry got his money before his management got theirs.

@@cozmowiz5593 Roomful got the arrangement from Fenton Robinson’s version of Texas Flood off of his 1974 album Somebody Loan Me A Dime. Roomful copied Fenton Robinson’s arrangement on their debut self titled album in 1977. So pretty sure this is Fenton Robinson’s arrangement of Texas Flood that everyone is copping.

@@agohman Oh I have no doubt. I think my point was Jimi is not playing stevies song rather he is playing a song they each played. Back in 81 I used to go to Lupos to listen to Duke do it with Roomfull. Back when Sugar Ray Sounded just like Fenton. 25 years ago a radio station made the same mistake giving credit to SRV for a song they said on air he wrote. They got complaints for almost an entire week. Pretty soon the his story books will list Europeans as the inventors of American Blues. Eliminating those wo gave it to you will never be known

Jimmie’ s tone is better than ever, and he had like 3 heart attacks and Cancer. May he always be here

His originality and character both in his playing and singing has always been an inspiration and always be. I need Jimmie's tone in a regular basis.

Wow I wonder how Stevie would be playing this now

Why listen to this when you could listen to the real deal?
@timgibbons9052 ай бұрын
It's called Texas blues music and it doesn't get more real than this.
@aeynghus2 ай бұрын
Using your logic, why listen to SRV when you could listen to Howling Wolf? This was the real deal. Bear in mind Jimmie is 73 here so it won't have the "youthful exuberance" that Stevie played it with 34 years ago.

What's the "real deal"?

I guess you are talking about Larry Davis who recorded the original version in 1958 with Fenton Robinson on lead guitar. Yes, that sure is a killer. But Davis passed away in 1994 so we can‘t go see him anymore. I think both Vaughan brothers played and still play a wonderful rendition of this classic blues title. I love JVs version.

You understand even SRV's version was a cover, right?
