Same! When Jimmie got drafted I was like who the hell is this guy? Then he started playing and you can't help but love/respect the man because he plays at such a high level in so many positions. Saleh and some 9ers went to Jets I like the Jets a bit. Meco and Jimmie and others go to Houston now I like Houston.

They were doing him dirty. I know some people will say who cares at least you can play in the NFL. The issue is the league judges you based on what you do on the field. So putting a guy in a position he's never played in his life is setting him up to fail.

I miss Jimmie as a person because he was part of the team for so long, but I don’t necessarily see the need for him to be on the niners team as a safety. If he would’ve stayed at nickel… of course. To this day, I will grab a Jimmie Ward #1 jersey to represent the #1 defense in 2022. He’s been a cornerstone of that physical defense ever since he was drafted. and I heard his frustrations from his Live after the last season, so I’m happy he can still have control over his destiny in the nfl. To be fair I don’t believe he is better than Gipson sr or Hufanga as safety, but I miss his leadership presence on the niners defense and I think Kyle moved him to nickel was so he could still start as a leader who improved the overall defense but wasn’t the best player at their primary position

naa...he's better than Gip. because passes weren't thrown at him in bunches. they might test him once or twice, but they NEVER went at him. You heard it in the interview, Kelce chirpin just cause he caught a 12 yard pass on him. Jimmy kept TE's locked DOWN.

I love Jimmie and wish him all the best but he wasn’t a better safety than gip and huff and he stayed getting toasted in the slot. Huff had an all pro season last year and gip was just as good. Can’t be mad at coach cause he was over payed and there were better guys at his position. Kyle don’t care how much you make. He just wants to win. Getting paid More money doesn’t always mean you are better.

Not gonna lie, very early on in his career it seemed he was always seriously injured. As a fan it was frustrating to say the least. I always assumed those 1 & 2 yr deals were the result of his injury history. Never knew there was internal tension between him & Kyle despite him absolutely balling out the past 3 years. It was sad to him go, but I now understand why he left. I wish he didn’t, but I wish him luck all the same.

I'm still a Jimmie Ward fan. I get this frustration with the situation for Jimmie. We did try to trade him, we did change his position often. A lot of that was a tip of the cap to his ability to play any role. We have swiss army knives on offense too. Jimmie got dinged up a lot but it's because he sacrificed his body relentlessly. He suffered through some reallly rough roster changes and bad teams. Unfortunately this is a business in the end. It was also having 2 other free safeties who could play FS in Tashaun Gipson Jr and Odum and Hufanga at Strong Safety. So having a wealth of talent at that position gave us opportunities to improve at other positions. Especially with our nickel role diminished and all the youth at Cornerback. We had just lost K'waun Williams. I mean Jimmie was ALWAYS hurt but he found his way back. Refusing to play a position seemed kind of like a bad move on the outside but in the end I get it. He had his mind set on playing safety, that's what he trained all off-season for. Fortunately he played nickel better than anyone else. He was needed there. He didn't air out too much dirty laundry. I still respect the dude.

He wanted $10 mil a season …. And ended up getting $6.5mil lol….. however, he wanted to play safety and would’ve played some nickel, but the 49ers did not want him at safety, so I get why he left. Plus he went with his defensive coordinator.

Crazy that I've been a 49ers fan, even after moving north of Seattle for 4 years. Even after moving to Houston, I wasn't a Texans fan until DeMeco became head coach. Player turn coaches get a lot of respect. What DeMeco is doing for the Texans in 2023 is appearing to be similar to what Harbaugh did for the 49ers in 2011. DeMeco will win NFL coach of the year if Texans continue and stack these wins. Still hard for me to picture Sherman as a 49er.
