Brandon Buccella Magicians do tricks, they are all show. This being a show, he worked out a trick with Jimmy and Quest before hand. I don't see the problem. The people were entertained, that's the key. Honestly, I enjoy watching to see if I can figure out how its done but most video magic is done this way and its boring. That doesn't mean other can't enjoy it and I see no real need to point it out to people. If they didn't figure it out, that means they enjoyed it.

yes, but this one was painfully simple and not at all misleading. I love magic shows and think that when done cleverly, can be mesmerizing. This was just not one of those tricks. Theres no wow factor, its "oh, they just pre wrapped his phone and gave him a fake one" theres no misdirection and relies purely on willingness and acting ability. I have seen better magic acts on AGT (America's Got Talent)

This trick is really easy to explain. When Dan White places QuestLove's cell phone into the box, he then calls upon the power of Ancistroides Nigrita, a chocolate butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae, to move the cell phone from the box into the yarn and then summons and leaves behind a chocolate bar instead. People are so stupid to be fooled by this!

Before the show started Dan switched Questloves phone with one that looks just like his without him knowing. He then put the real phone in the ball of yarn. Then he hid the fake one, and made it seem like he teleported his real phone inside the ball of yarn... great illusion!

I agree that’s the only common sense explanation, but It seems like a huge amount of risk and work. I suppose you can know in advance what kind of phone and case questlove has, but what if he tries to use it after the switch but before the illusion? So the switch probably happened just before they went on air, most likely by a trusted band member or producer. On the other hand, he unlocked “his” phone, which adds another layer of complexity. I don’t know…?

Meanwhile His actual phone was wrapped inside that wool ball before the trick.when the actual trick is commencing he didnt unlocked the phone or didnt check whether its his phone and gives the phone to Dan .. all the whats inside the box tricks were distractions to make sure Quest doesnt turn his phone on.... jimmy’s trick was only a little mind trick.

Starting at 5:11, if he’s putting something in the box that “everyone can see” why is he hiding the fact that he’s now going back into the box for something while he’s talking? He wants us to BELIEVE he’s putting away the little platform the ball of yarn was sitting on, but in fact, he’s placing the chocolate bar into the bottom of the box. Then, at 5:45, when he reaches down to place the cell phone into the box, he CLEARLY isn’t placing it at the bottom - his hand stops on the middle of the box - there is some sort of trick shelf there with a deck of wrapped cards. Also, that’s not Quest’s cell phone he pulls out of his pocket. That’s an imposter, and either QL is in on the trick, and he’s aware, of his cell phone was taken before the segment and wrapped in the ball of yarn ahead of time without his knowledge.

Third, Quest's reaction could be authentic if his cell had been switched before the show by someone of confidence - it would have been most likely after Quest had silenced his phone in order to start the show taping. Or, Quest was in on the whole thing (which could tie back into #1). Quest's very quick hand movement to his phone upon the silent request was almost as if he was anticipating the question.

yea that part isn't hard to figure out. They only reach half way down, so its obviously a trick box that has the objects they feel in the top part, and the objects revealed in the bottom. You can see him when he lifts the front cover to reveal them he has his hand/thumb on the back side panel pushing in the hidden shelf/object as hes lifting the front cover. First on the right side (you looking) and then with the yarn, on the left side (sliding up his hand). He's pushing in the hidden side compartments at that point. The part with the phone. The ONLY way that could be done was if Quest was in the trick, OR he was told ahead of time he would need to have his phone for the trick. Otherwise, the trick wouldn't work if Quest didn't have his phone on him. What if quest didn't have a phone on him, the trick would have failed right there when he ASKED for the phone. The phone is thin enough to be pushed into the hidden side panels where the other spoon/rubber spider were hid. So he was either in on the trick and had "his" phone handy, or he was told he would need to give his phone for the trick and was ready with his phone. Otherwise, tap Quest on the shoulder, give the "phone" hand signal, Quest doesn't have a phone on him.. fail trick.

The only thing I can think is that there is a double of Questlove's phone. Like Questlove doesn't know that there is a double or how this trick was done. But I think there was some discussion with him before hand about the phone where Dan could have gotten ahead of this. And I only think that because the way Questlove typically reacts and questions what he is being asked to do, but when Dan asked for the phone, there was no hesitation. Like Questlove was just like "Okay this is the part where he uses my phone, like we talked about." Although I don't think Questlove knew what was going to be done with it or how. The box is clearly gimmicked. And sure Dan's hands aren't clean. But that Yarn was far away before he got the phone, it was in full audience view, and the unraveling of the yarn seemed pretty legitimate. So I'm not sure how else it could be done without a double and that he was given the double to hold beforehand without realizing it. The real phone was in the yarn the whole time.

✨ How the phone trick works: Before Dan puts “quests phone” inside the box he opens the chest under the table, takes something out of the white box, and puts it in the chest. If you look back to 4:50 you’ll see that under the ball of yarn there’s a little white platform. That’s what he takes out and puts in the chest. It’s not there when he reveals the chocolate. But it’s not just a platform, it’s a box containing the chocolate bar. When he’s putting the “phone” in the box he’s actually hiding it, probably in a secret compartment, and the chocolate bar is already there. The phone inside the ball of yarn is a dupe of quests phone. It’s easy for someone who works for the show to copy his wallpaper and get the same phone case to make the phone appear to be his. He never unlocked the phone to verify any further than the lock screen.

It’s TV magic. Different from real street magic. Most of this stuff is generally set up for the camera because the show is all for the live audience and the viewers, not the subjects being used for the trick. The phone was already in the yarn before hand and the one he gave was just a fake - he never showed the screen, only the back!

I'm still not 100% sure how he does the full trick, but here is what I noticed. Before i explain what he does, notice @ 2:19 that the box has an inner wall that makes the whole box now a bit thicker. Within the outer and inner wall, things can be stored and somehow he pulls down another section. Here is why i think this: if you go back when he puts in the first object, watch his left hand. He puts in the big spoon with his right hand and pulls something with his left thumb. Now, if you carefully watch Jimmy put in his arm, you notice that he doesn't go all the way in. That's because the height was minimized when Dan did whatever he did with his left thumb. So then right before Dan reveals the big spoon, he once again swipes something up with his left thumb. First trick explained. Next he puts in a ball of yarn with a white box under it (with a chocolate inside). After he reveals the yarn, takes it out, and covers the box again, notice he leaves the white box in there and soon after pulls something out and places it in his briefcase, uncovering the chocolate. So now Dan tries to manipulate Jimmy but fails as Jimmy guesses a deck of cards, but Dan goes along. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. When Dan puts the phone inside the box NOTICE that he doesn't place it at the bottom of the box, in fact he places it somewhere midway (same section as first trick?) and closes something. NOW WHEN JIMMY PUTS IN HIS HAND TO FEEL WHATS INSIDE HE HAS TO GO WAAAAAY DEEPER THAN THE FIRST TIME, because the height is now the full height. The only thing I have no idea about, is how he put the phone in the yarn, but here are two theories. Magicians have to do a lot of practicing and a lot of studying, so its normal that magicians study people who are on the show and objects they have (like a cellphone), so either somehow Dan got a hold of Questlove's phone before the show and swapped it with an identical phone, with an identical case, with identical cracks on the screen, and the same wallpaper OR swapped the fake phone with his actual phone after the show.

at 5:42 Quest cellphone cover is grayish and at 9:00 it was green. He probably had a different cell phone in the yarn and he quickly exchanged it with Quest cellphone when he reached the transparent box.

Obviously the only way this is possible is that Quest is unaware that his phone has been switched from his pocket (probably by an assistant or someone) or he is in on it. He did pull out his phone rather fast when asked. I guess it is possible that the phone is not actually his phone but has the same case and screensaver.

Idk you can see the screen wake up while it’s still in the yarn, and your time stamp doesn’t show him reaching near pockets or anything but the camera does cut away, I think you’re on the right path

isn't a crack. I thought it was also at first but after watching it a couple times, its just left over yarn threads that were caught on the phone case as the yarn was removed. Just some loose yarn thread leftover.
