Mel's Hair Shack shared a link. 19 minutes ago Shocking news for me today! Not even two weeks ago I had the privilege to meet the late and great Jimmy C. Newman when he brought his wife to my salon to have her hair done. I had no idea who he was. Just thought they were a local couple in the area. However, there was something special about him. I was very drawn to him as we talked and discussed cutting his hair very soon. All the while not bothering to mention his status or anything pertaining to his legendary career in country music. Instead we talked about how he and his wife had been married for 66 years, they were from Louisiana, and they lived in Tennessee for years on a farm, right down the road. I thought he was such a cute, funny and sweet man as he told me how very picky he was about his hair / haircut but, not long into our conversation he said he would be willing to give me a shot. I simply smiled and said thank you! I too am very picky also and I will do my best! My best to cut his hair to his satisfaction. I so enjoyed talking with him! So anyway to sum it all up. Last night, his wife Mae called me and was crying and told me about his passing and asked if I could do her hair this morning. So of course I did. Well, it was not until talking with his sweet wife Mae today that I realized who he was! It was like a light bulb clicked on. I knew who the legendary Jimmy C. Newman was and had seen him perform once at the Grand Ol Opry. I just didn't recognize him in my lil' ol salon. But what I will always remember about Jimmy C. is... his kindness, his sweet and simple ways, his love for his wife and Tennessee. What a great loss! I feel it was a great privilege to meet him! I also cannot help but wish that I could have sat for hours listening to his stories. May God Bless, bring peace and comfort to all of his family, friends and fans! May you rest in peace Jimmy C. Newman! Grand Ole Opry performer Jimmy C. Newman dies at 86 www.wsmv.com One of the Grand Ole Opry's most beloved stars has died, "The Cajun Man," Jimmy C. Newman.
