World renowned drummer Jimmy Chamberlin reviews his musical upbringing and career. He tells us about his siblings’ eclectic music collection, his first few bands-including a polka band-and how he worked as a carpenter for a few years. He shares stories about The Smashing Pumpkins, the role each member played in the band and why he and Billy Corgan continue to work together to this day. Jimmy also describes the creative outlet he finds in playing jazz and the overlaps between music and technology.

The more interviews I listen to with Jimmy, the more I realize how intelligent, eloquent, and a 'master of the craft' he really is. I would love love love if he would create a drumming course/DVD type of thing. He seems to be an honest communicator and has a very detailed way of explaining his methodology.

Great interview! I've followed JC since Gish, and have been fortunate enough to meet him in person a few times. Needless to say, I'm a HUGE fan. Well thought questions, and wonderful insights to allow Jimmy to open up. Thanks a lot!

Great interview, Jimmy. I remember back in the day, say hi to Laura for me, when you can. Very happy for you that you got it all turned around. You didn't mention gigging with the blues bands around Joliet, but I remember you sitting in when you were 15. I regret that your name is not mentioned in the rock's best drummer videos, as your skill and talent were worthy. I got a chance to interview Michael Shrieve two years ago, his background was very parallel to yours. He was greatly influenced by guys like Lenny White, and Elvin Jones, along with Tony Williams. I think he even said he gave the eulogy at Jones' funeral. Anyway, congratulations on your storied accomplishments, love Cherub Rock. YHVH bless.

I only play drums because chamberlin was my teacher. I got my talent from him. When bands ask me how I sounds I simply say "Jimmy chamberlin taught me how to play, dave Grohl taught me how to hit"

Haha no I meant metaphorically taught me. I simply played to his songs. I was intrigued, I only knew of bands with simple beats, so it was easy for me to play to them. But as soon as pumpkins got in my arsenal of bands, I just could be keep up. So i would play to gish, dreams, collie, adore, machina, some songs I could play others I could only dream of. But I kept playing them over, over, and over again until i was maintaining a basica groove of the song, some songs I still cant get right, but I'm better for it then if I simply said " well I cant play to this" I dont know if I would be where I am, if I didnt have that drive to perfection
