As successful as he was, somehow fame that Bob Marley enjoyed did not quite materialise for brother Jimmy. Am I right? Except I have NO IDEA why this man was not celebrated more. He was prolific, his lyrics are smart, thought provoking, strongly evocative without being confrontational or destructive. Liberation themes, so important during his best years were so well expressed by this maestro. Im 58 and grew up in a household that bought his records. We listened with great appreciation but like I say I failed to acknowledge how great Jimmy Cliff is/was. Thank you so much brother! Excellent artist and I am so privileged to have experienced his music.

Jimmy Cliff is the best. He's a genius! His songs are evergreen. I was in my teens when I started to listen and dance to his music. I am now in my 50s and each time I play his music as if it has just been released. He is a freedom fighter, motivator, entertainer, composer, etc. He is fearful, outspoken, a model for all, etc. Ride on sir!

I was about twenty one when I first heard this song in the early seventies. That day the song was great and fantastic, as it is today, The Sunday morning after, I was passing by a church and I looked through the windows and saw the worshippers kneeling down in deep meditation or prayer, including my fellow wayfarers on the sleazy side of life, and I immediately burst into this song and ran away as fast as my legs could carry me.

Jimmy cliff is a prophet. There are people in churches who people are calling prophets, but all they do is swindle money from people... Jimmy is a real prophet because the message in his songs have come to pass and can evoke love compassion and understanding.. His music is timeless and living just like a tree planted by the rivers of waters. Give thus humble messenger his due. Buff respect to Jimmy cliff.

I was a young boy in 1974 when Jimmy Cliff visited the city of Aba in now Abia State of Nigeria. But still, I defied all securities in Aba Stadium and made sure I came to the front where I was able to see this legend from Kingston Jamaica very clearly and when he demanded that the crowed should mention which of his songs they wanted him to perform, in my small voice then, I shouted: "ON MY LIFE", and he jumped up in his usual dancing style and performed it so well that the whole crowed forgot that they had waited for almost a whole day before his arrival to the Aba stadium on that day. He is really an inspiration and one of many reasons why I had to establish my business and live in the United States. Jimmy Cliff is my legend of all times. During an interview on that visit, when he was asked about which of Nigerian musicians he fancied most: he answered and said: "ONLY THAT OF FELA" and that again swept me off the ground because that was another legend of mine from Nigeria.
