This hits home. I did 4 years in thr corps and deployed twice. A LOT of my friends have PTSD, 2 died in combat and 6 committed suicide because they couldn't cope. The one I miss the most is Matus. He joined at 17 and died from a sniper round at 20. Not even old enough to drink. I frequently wonder, is this worth it? With the state of the world and the US, was my friends sacrifice worth anything?

@jimnewt2138 sometimes I feel guilty that I lived while he died. I joined the marines at age 23 and got out at 27. He joined at age 17 and died at 20. Why should someone older like me live while someone like Matus, who wasn't even old enough to drink, die?

@@Styxswimmer Cause life is just life..... tragic stuff happens to good people some die, some have to live as a shell of their former self (Ptsd), some were born for greatness but life broke them! Meanwhile a ho outhere lives all her life good through only fans! It is what it is bro atleast they died for something bigger than themselvs!

@@Styxswimmer life gives us these questions i sit back and say the same things about how i shouldnt be here or someone else should have my place but take it as a sign that maybe you are the one who has to stick it through, live for your brothers man! turn that pain and those memories and make something new with it, write your story or write theirs, i shouldve died at 15 17 19 20 and 21 and im here at 24! lost two of my best friends to pain pills, one just last november. we gotta stay out the trenches!

A moving tribute to a character who was a stand-in for a generation that went to a war that never had to be fought, and never really came back. And the US was on the winning side of that war. Imagine being a German veteran of WWI. Also hits home about a death-wish. Jimmy was a shell of himself after WWI. Like his wife says when he tells her about the new Lewis gun that could fire 600 rounds a minute: "You used to talk about books." He wanted to die but didn't have the constitution for suicide. Nucky was putting him out of his misery.

I've never seen a portrayal of someone being in total moral turmoil & burntout with life like what Michael Pitt did with the character of Jimmy Darmody. He perfectly played a disillusioned romantic, disappointed with life. People say his behaviour behind the scenes got him prematurely written-off the show, but I think his character died at the right time. Jimmy was a ticking time bomb. He was always going to die before his time. And Steve Buscemi knocked it out of the park as an arsehole politician who uses the naivety of people like James to achieve their aims. This is a flawless edit.

James death was totally preventable all he would have to do is have Harrow creep some where with his rifle to make sure it all went smoothly

I think this too. But James was a shell and overall just didn’t give af anymore. He knew what was going to happen, and more importantly he wanted it to happen. Free himself of a place he didn’t want to be.

Wow brother! I love how beautiful this edit on Jimmy is. He's one of the characters that feels it more human, along side Richard. The song of choice is perfect for telling his story. The parallels, the connections and the quotes (especially the ones by Richard) are perfectly putted. I hope you do another edit on Boardwalk Empire. Congratulations!

I'm Rewatching the series after watching it live on HBO back in the day, then my gf got into it so we bought the dvds, now I'm streaming it on HBO max . I forgot how much I love Michael Pitt as an actor, every show and movie he was in, bully, Dawson's creek, the one with the weird french brother and sister, the one where he is a psycho with a twin and they hold a family captive and so many more. (Of course Hannibal, he played Mason so well.) When they killed off his character in BWE, 30% of the show died with him😭. I understand why they did it since he was a fictional character but still. First two seasons will always be the highlight of this series, the rest while good at times lost that magic. Yeesh and they kept Eli😒, how many times does he get to betray Nucky
