Long live Jimmy Dawkins! Saw him in a small Chicago blues bar in the early 90's. Was literally 5 feet away from him center stage. Oh, what a show that was. He was on fire! Too bad like all the rest of the ol' school blues musicians he's gone. Haven't had my live blues fix in a long time. Been too long. Am in withdrawal. Nothing beats a live blues show in a small bar. His CD's are the next best thing.

Jimmy Dawkins has spent much of his career in the shadows of more celebrated Chicago blues artists. Although largely unsung among the '60's Blues hierarchy, his guitar style is full of tension and spicy licks. This is a marvellous example of this. Wonderful stuff!

Now here I am playing the blues, and doing the very best that I can The whole world is talking down on me, but I know they just don't understand So I'm going on singing and playing the blues, I'm just a lonely guitar man Going on singing and playing my blues, 'cause I'm just a lonely guitar man When it comes down to money and other things, I don't have none But when I play my guitar, I have a whole lots of fun World down on me, I know they don't understand Going on singing and playing my blues, I'm just a lonely guitar man Going on singing and playing my blues, just a lonely guitar man Listen: lost the woman that I loved, I think she got another man I tried to do everything for her, but I know she don't understand Going on singing and playing the blues, oh, she don't understand Singing and playing my blues, 'cause I'm just a lonely guitar man 'Cause I'm just a lonely guitar man

Can't get enough of this tune. Really do like Dawkins and nearly all his tunes. Got turned on to him through a comment that Walter Trout made.

Seen both of them several times. Jimmy's way better. He's in another league, like Byther Smith, Magic Slim, Son Seals and Little Ed all of whom I was extremely fortunate to have seen several times in the mid 90's in small blues bars (where the blues is meant to be experienced) in Chicago, Buffalo and Toronto.
