This song is about Mykel and Carli Allen, the women who ran the Weezer fan club. They died in a car accident driving back from a Weezer concert. They would always say "hear you me." The two women would often look for up and coming bands and would give them a place to stay. The line, "There's no one in town I know, you gave us some place to go" is talking about how when they would be in town for a concert and didn't know anyone, they stayed with Mykel and Carli, who gave them a place to stay.

One day, I was helping my step grandpa build a porch for his house. We drove to a store that was super far away for some reason to get the kind of brick you needed. Looking back at it, I'm pretty sure it was just an excuse to hang out with me, but it's whatever. Anyway, he only had one leg due to a medical condition that he never payed too much attention to. He was pretty slow because of it, and when it came to actually loading the bricks in his truck, I did most the work, but I did it very willingly, I loved showing how "tough" I was to him, thought it might make him proud. You probably know how grandparents are. We got back in his truck and started back to his house, again, a fairly long drive for a pretty simple task. As we're driving, he looks over to see 15 year old me slightly worn up and catches me playing with some minor but somewhat intriguing cuts on my hand... I was 15 and easily impressed. He must've felt bad for some reason, as he breaks the silence with: "You know, bud... You must think I'm awfully slow. I'm really sorry for that. But, one day, when I'm older and I get up to heaven, I think I'll find a bench and sit down. That way, I can wait on you for a change." He's been in heaven for a few months now. I hope time passes fast up there. I never liked keeping him waiting.

I was absolutely gobsmacked obsessed with this song and this album in middle school. It was one of the first records I bought for my vinyl. I bought it with queen greatest hits. I was so proud of that purchase because it introduced me to this song. I remember laying on my floor with my eyes closed and limbs spread just taking in the song as I went somewhere away from my complicated home life. I never thought it would have such an impact on my life though because not even four years later, I am driving away from the hospital with my headphones in trying to disassociate when this song I had forgotten about comes on. My grandma (Momsi) is on the last days of her life due to breast cancer that came out of nowhere. She was so healthy. She was supposed to travel and see the world. Instead she died two weeks before my sixteenth birthday. Instead she never saw me perform in my school show as eponine. Now looking back at all of it as a 22 year old, I can say that there are good days and bad days but there is beauty in it all regardless. I am on the cusp of graduating college and I know that you are proud of me. I am excited to see where my life will take me and I thank you for the memories you have gifted me. I love you Momsi. You are the reason I am the woman I am today. ♥️

At his wake we had a candle lighting ceremony were all of my brothers and sisters and I lit a candle and we played this song during the ceremony. I'm so sorry for your loss. I really only started listening to this song a couple of days ago, maybe a little over 2 weeks ago. It has quickly become one of my favorite songs. Simply listening to the song makes it so much more powerful, instead of singing along. "God wouldn't let it live" is such a beautiful line. Breaks my heart every time. This is a very lovely song. It has a beautiful melody and, every time I hear it, I always think my grandfather. He was my best friend, and he passed away from ALS when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I hope I have made him proud of me, despite my missing him. He was fiercely loyal to God, and I think that angels did in fact lead him in. Thank you, Jimmy Eat World, for making this inspirational song to remind me of my caring, loving, amazing grandpa that fought bravely. He is in heaven now. Rest in Peace, my dear friend.
