Yeah I was really impressed with how well he played, especially after getting thrown into the fire like that. He’s got a lot of potential imo. He made some really clutch plays when they really needed them. And the INT he threw was on 4th down when they would have turned the ball over on downs anyways. I actually liked the fact that he went for it instead of just quitting on the play to protect his stats…if you’re gonna turn the ball over anyways you may as well give your guy a chance to make a play. I really like this kid.

My favorite story about Purdy is when Fred Warner told coach about him. See as 3rd string in the offseason, it was Purdy's job to practice the defense while Trey and Jimmy G were practicing the offense. It was the defense that came to Shanahan and told him what was up. Purdy impressed the 9ers defense from day ONE.

I remember the great Matt Flynn who threw 6 TDs for Green Bay and started 5 games over 5 years as injury replacement. No crown given.

Real Niners fans knew that Brock Purdy was something special (as a backup, at least) from what we saw in cthe Preseason. He absolutely won the backup job against Nate Sudfield, who had signed a fully guaranteed contract. The Niners refused to dare trying to stash him on the Practice Squad, which had been the original plan because they would have absolutely lost him.

I think it will be easier for Purdy just for the fact that when he sees his offense, he sees; Mcafrey, Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, Juscyky, and Trent Williams! There is huge offensive power on that 49ers offense. He doesn't need to ball out because he can use all those weapons for his advantage.

Shanahan's system starts with the blocking scheme, it is traditionally a Zone Blocking 'run first' by design if not by practice. If as the backup quarterback you are doing what you are supposed to, learning the schemes, learning the playbook, drawing up plans to go over with the other men in the QB if you do what's asked of you you should be ready to pick up the phone and answer the call when the time for you to thrust into the game comes. After that it's execution, you go out there and you make the right checks at the line and make sure you have the right protection called at the line in theory you should be ready to perform. The 9ers are a talent laden team, this is a team that with a loaded backfield thought it prudent not to pass on the opportunity to add a guy with CMC's talents to their roster, this is a team that runs through it's offense, that's not to say they don't play hard on defense and don't have a star studded defense, but if this team isn't controlling the LOS on offense they are not playing to their strengths. Good on Mr. Irrelevant for rising to the occasion here, this is a golden opportunity to establish his value in this league and either find himself as one of the most eligible bachelor this off-season or at the very least make it very hard for the 9ers to consider their options when it comes to resigning Jimmy G. Or trading Jimmy or himself

@@tayk4784 You really need to go and watch the film. The quick releases are what make the Oline look good, if the play that was called worked. On the injury, the 2 dlinemen came basically untouched. The Saints game was a lot of the same thing. It goes all the way back to the Denver game. The running game is nowhere near as effective as it once was. Yes they get a couple of big chunk plays here and there, but that is it. Go and watch.

@@byronsmith3152 I watch it all the time, that play was a miscommunication between Jimmy G, Deebo, and Trent. Pretty sure Deebo was meant to chip #15 n he just ignored him along with Trent. Qb got hit okay but to say that the hit alone injured Jimmy G is fckin flat dumb. How many times we see Brock get hit worse than that and he ain't break a bone/s. I think you need to rewatch the tape and keep in mind not every play will be perfectly blocked if you can't accept that than just don't talk ball.

Brock Purdy was basically a four year starter for Iowa State. And he played pretty well all four years. He certainly changed their offense from anything it had been in any recent memory. And during his four years as a team ISU was a lot better than they’ve been for a long time. He’s a guy who probably slide down as far as he did because of where he went to school and being a bit small. But I think he easily would’ve been at least a fifth rounder had he had the same results at Iowa let’s say. I’m a Hawkeyes fan but it would be cool to see this guy have a long run as a starter. Sadly for Jimmy G this game just encapsulates exactly why the team tried to move on from him and why they’re going to after this season. When Jimmy is healthy he wins games. But the dude just can’t stay healthy and you can’t build your team and future on that. In the now five seasons he’s spent starting for the team he’s lost basically two entire seasons to injury and now goes down again. Have to feel bad for the guy a bit because he just can’t catch a break with this. I was really hoping he’d stay healthy, make a deep run, and get a big final deal this off-season. With this happening it’s hard to see it happening for him. Hard to envision a team making s but commitment to a guy who is sadly a 50/50 chance about playing.

It's 100% fair to expect Purdy to have drop off being a rookie 99.9% of the time. However... Purdy I feel is the exception to the rule. Here's why: 1. He played 4 yrs in college & played really well. Most first rounders only have 2 years experience in college. 2. Purdy has an exception work habits. 3. Kyle trusted Purdy to throw 37 times!!! This should say volumes & it absolutely does. 4. Purdy already has the support of the locker room. This is huge. 5. Production is more important than potential. Potential is fairy dust, production isn't. Purdy has production. 6. Purdy was good... NFL good. He had a few "wow" plays you only see from the best of the best. This is inspiring going forward. 7. Lastly, I can go on & on. Watch the tape. He was looking off safties, going through his reads, etc. Yeah he missed a few throws & could have chosen a better target here or there but, watch the tape. Purdy played like a vet. This is why so many people are impressed with him. Let's not forget that Miami blitzed & blitzed & mixed coverages, etc. Purdy out played Tua. That's a fact jack.
