As important as Monk was - right there at the start, and in the following years, was he really a bop piano player? Monk had his own thing, and it really didn't line up with Bird and Dizzy. Bud Powell did, and it was he who was the model for all future bop piano players.

Bud Powell is most underrated of creators of bebop and he was at least as important as Bird, Dizzy or Monk if not more so. It's a shame he still doesn't get a credit due to him!
