Interesting backstory behind Sting and Jimmy Nail performing together here: Sting originally wrote his song This Cowboy Song in late 1993, with the intention of giving it to Jimmy Nail for Nail's tie-in album for his (then) as-yet-uncompleted TV series "Crocodile Shoes", but Jimmy Nail could not complete his recording of the song in time for it to be included on the final album, or in the series, because Sting (who had agreed to produce and contribute to the proposed Jimmy Nail version) became unavailable for, and had to cancel, the intended studio dates; consequently, Jimmy Nail's version was abandoned altogether... Sting then recorded his own version of This Cowboy Song, which he included on his 1994 "best of" album 'Fields Of Gold'... This Cowboy Song finally reached the UK Singles Chart in early 1995 via an all-new reworking with Pato Banton... When Jimmy Nail was scheduled to open this episode of Top Of The Pops with Cowboy Dreams, and Sting and Pato Banton were later given a slot on the sane episode performing This Cowboy Song, Sting and Jimmy Nail decided to appear in each others' performance to keep the tie-in with the "Cowboy" theme of both songs... Loved the clip of them "switching" for intro here!

Sting, Paddy and Jimmy all in the same band? Just need Mark Knopfler and Alan Shearer for the Geordie Mount Rushmore

I was not aware of this highly intelligent song, but only Paddy McAloon gets enigmatic to scan.
