I had the distinct privilege of meeting Jimmy in 1988. He was sitting at the bar at the hotel he was staying in, drinking a beer, alone. My friends and I approached him and he spent over 30 minutes chatting w/ us. I was blown away by how kind and sincere he was. Just a perfect gentleman and even cracked a few jokes w/ us. Say what you will about the man, but he is a rock icon and one helluva nice person. Very humble too, especially considering his status.

Jimmy is just naturally quiet. He was taking the bullit for Jimmy because at this time people would want to make him talk and try to misconstrue his words later. Jimmy is wise and elusive.

It’s really hard to believe Jimmy didn’t play for 18 months, his guitars always seemed like a part of his body. I think the breakup of Led Zeppelin really hurt him, it was his baby & he loved what they were doing. He was & always will be the greatest guitarist ever, I’m glad he started playing again.

Jimmy is so right about music being better in the 60s, and that because of the technology, music has began to lose it's originality, and doesn't even sound good.

here's my 2 cents. first off those of you who are dissing roy harper, he and Pagey have been close friends since led zeppelin existed. before he saw plant sing he actually asked harper if would be interested. roy isn't being rude. he knows his friend well and is being a friend. our beloved jimmy was going through some VERY rough times and hated interviews. he was sensitive and clearly didn't want to speak. i think roy was covering for him, and to me it appeared a loving act of friendship.

Listen people,no guitarist is perfect, but as long as the energy and feel is there,it's music.Playing guitar ain't as easy as it looks, even if you are a famous rockstar. As for the pagerism?Look up any band's songwriting & ur bound to find rip offs.So much ground has been tread on in music it's appauling. But to harness the spirit of past musicians & spin it into something of your own, that takes talent.

Depeche mode on computers in music: "Its not like you can just hit a few buttons and it'll create the song for you." Sorry thats exactly what its like. Dont get me wrong there are still some extremely inspired and talented musicians that use technology and computers to create their sound. But for the most part it is a crutch that does most of the work for you.

maximum. I made some comments on another utube video that accused page of stealing ideas. I made the same comment. Cavemen with sticks and rocks. Music is culture more than it is anything else. We all steal inspiration all of the the time. Its good and healthy for everyone until the lawyers get involved. Greed, pride, ego, etc etc. Anything but love for the art.

white robin, you do realise that Led Zep are the biggest heavy rock band/ band of all time. Jimmy created heavy rock, he made the les paul a global iconic guitar, he wrote the most played song on the airwaves of all time. He set the bench mark for what heavy rock is all about. A true original. If he never played another note again, he would still remain the grand master of rock, heavy guitars, and all thats good about english music. Dont be jelouse all your life kid...

it makes him think of Bonham, a band is full with close friends, when you start, you are one... you know each other, you know when something's wrong... you live together, I mean you do everything together, and when you become famous, you even go closer to each other... The thing that was making Bonham having fun with, is the thing that killed him... He just drank, as usual, and he didn't knew he had it coming... :(

... well... "don't think it is fair to say that jimmy page doesn't have any ideas or creativity." is SUCH an understatement ... it goes WAY beyond "unfair" ... it is incredibly ludicrous for them to have said that ... it is one of those things that i'm sure those kids look back on now with extreme embarrassment (or should do) ... jimmy had more creativity (in the studio and on stage) than the whole lot of them

Well, a quarter century has proven Jimmy correct; and Depeche Mode was a well named band indeed, since they had the staying power of a breath mint. Good music doesn't go out of fashion, and in fact it has little or nothing to do with fashion at all.

Televizzle07. I agree, concerning Page. He is the most interesting of all guitarists. And that is saying a lot. I am a session guitarist, and I have so many guitarists that I like. But Page always made songs interesting and different. And as far as all these people talking about Page grabbing a lot of credit from others is bull. Everyone grabbed from others. It started when the first caveman picked up a stick and hit a rock.

Wow, thanks for posting - it's been 25 years since I last saw this. This was a classic BBC fit-up - Jimmy Page was NEVER against young or up-and -coming synthesizer bands, whom he would have praised given the chance. A 'Michael Moore' was done to make them look a pair of bitter old men dissing new bands. The normally charming Mark Allen, is quite condescending throughout this interview.

I didn't say everyone sucked or mean it literally, I just said the 80s blew chunks, in general. Pop stuff sounded like the same synthesizer drum machine crap. It's just my opinion. There were great metal & punk bands at the time, a lot of cool alternative college stuff. I loved REM & Peter Gabriel. But yeah, the top 40 junk was mostly ...junk.

@boggedmaffus Anyway, Page didn't even mention DM - all he said was that he just thought that '80s music was "verse-chorus" and it hadn't moved on musically despite the change from guitars to synths, which is true; but a lot of '80s electro bands (Human League, for example) WANTED to sound like '60s pop. In the '90s, Jimmy came out and said he was a fan of the Prodigy - all electronic, no guitars. If you think that Zep never used synths go back and listen to Carouselambra.
