WODERFUL!!! I am so thankful that Jimmy has returned to playing...I've been tuning in to his recent videos. I missed him when he was off the scene for so long...He is SO very talented. A true LEGEND!!! And Frank Vignola is of course SUPERB!!!

i guess if you have passion and are born into a jazz playing gypsy family then it should be possible to achieve something similar. But still they are both enormously talented and not everyone can cultivate it like this.
@steeezease4 жыл бұрын
I’m gonna be honest, I always skip to 1:40 and I’ve watched this a thousand times. Jimmy was a king during this time.
@steeezease4 жыл бұрын
And then skip to 3:15 after Jimmy’s first solo. Jimmy is so young and powerful here. Amazing footage.

even after the thousand time it still amazes me how perfect that solo is.

jimmy's tone is so incredible. so thick and cutting at the same time- it gets that beautiful round pop that im always after. and the legato is so smooth it caries the melodic momentum seamlessly between each note. the beauty of an elite right hand!
@simoarenera7 жыл бұрын
There's no legato in Jimmy's playing... Maybe a note here and there to embellish... The man plays at an insane speed by picking all the note with power and downstrokes every string change, beginning and end of phrases and almost anything on downbeat. Nobody has his technique nobody... Maybe stochelo but with lighter touch
@handdancin7 жыл бұрын
Simone Stefanini ah yes of course i know the technique- i mean there are no gaps between the notes, not that he is using lots of pull offs and hammer ons.

you can really hear the difference in tone produced by the authentic relaxed wrist approach vs the palms in that Frank uses. Hard to get that real gypsy feel without the relaxed/loose wrist that isn't resting on the body...

WOW, that's what makes me enjoy guitar music, I wonder what it would have been like if Jimmy met Lenny Breau.The two top jass guy's. Jimmy and Lenny are the only 2 guy's I've heard of that can play anything they want at what ever speed.

I love these videos, and often ask myself, how did an Italian guy like Frank come across gypsy jazz at such a young age? I knew of Django, knew Jazz. I was a neo - classical Metal player/Rock/Blues player in the 80's. If I would have known about this Manouche genre, Gypsy Jazz, I NEVER would have went down the road to Rock???

when Jimmy takes off at 1:38, you can really tell the difference between these two. Frank plays generic Jazz phrases whereas Jimmy does an incredible improv on the theme. He blends in the principle notes and dynamics of the theme. This is something you can't teach.
@The_Kevinist7 жыл бұрын
eupsychon dude sounds so fucking like Django, it's insane
@jazzerson70877 жыл бұрын
I agree, but not really fair to compare them though, Jimmy is a full blooded Sinto Romani, gypsy jazz has been in his blood all his life.

I agree.
@jozokukavica98147 жыл бұрын
Quality of these two players is different.
@enzolo24205 жыл бұрын
hi, i am sorry, but i have to disagree heavily. "Frank plays generic Jazz phrases" ---> thats way too much of a bullshit analysis and much to respectless towards him as a player especially since he was the one forming these little groups of musicians in the videos. Too furthermore prove that you appreantly dont know what you are talking about: "when Jimmy takes off at 1:38, you can really tell the difference between these two" --> What Frank is playing untill 1:38 is not his improvisation, but simply the theme to the tune! you CAN NOT do "more" than playing the theme and his variations are absolutely fine. one more personal thing: i absolutely hate it this whole comparing competition for no reason, but i hate it even more to read those kind of bullshit analysis, at least state that its only your opinion. before you start arguing with me, ask somebody qualified in music.

@paulgibby69322 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it's a Favino. I think they were often bigger than other guitars. Not sure though. Han'sche Weiss and Lulu Rheinhardt played Favino's in the Kwintet with Tito Winterstein. They kind of look like this one. Great sound, of course.
