This interview makes the idea Savile as a creepy, evil master manipulator seem far fetched. Obviously his victims know the truth but without a trial he couldn't face justice, or maybe he would have been found innocent. Anyway this is fascinating.

I heard he wasn't actually a very good DJ, he just had the reputation. He didn't have much interest in new music for instance. It fits the pattern of him as a charlatan. Same goes for his expertise of hospital administration or his knowledge of handling the criminally insane.

He could win the Keir Starmer Award for Bullshitting and Self-Promotion. He might well have made a good politcian.

Interestingly he sounds quite normal and calm in this interview, usually he sounded more controlling and argumentative. You can see here he could come across as humble, funny, complimentary and good company. He knew out to adapt to his audience I suppose. During the 1980s he was in his 60s and campaigning hard for a knighthood. He cleaned up his image a bit in the 80s, got a haircut and tried to worm his way into the establishment. During the 70s you got much more inuendo and smut from him. During the 2000s he played the peculiar eccentric dinosaur but very popular in Leeds. He actually comes off as fairly charming here, though superficial charm is something many criminals sometimes can put on.

'They don't make him like that anymore' and thank goodness! I assume you are exhibiting British humour! A dinosaur even in his own lifetime. He knew how to exploit, and particularly in this clip makes special effort to push a particular theme, wow ace creep himself, consummate! So very duplicitous. The Sunday radio show was absolute utter shite. Fckng supreme actor and ace manipulator! Wow this is despicable ... the 'duchess' ... FFS! He knew how to exploit TV, media etc. Roy Plomley really comes across as an ass licking unctious creep etc ...
