Every Christian in the world should read this quote from Hitler's speech in Munich on April 12, 1922. The Prime Minister of Bavaria had stated that his beliefs "as a man and a Christian" prevented him from being an anti-Semite or pursuing anti-Semitic polices (also notable that he say "man" and "Christian"). But this is how Hitler responded to him ... "I would like here to appeal to a greater than I, Count Lerchenfeld. He said in the last session of the Landtag that his feeling 'as a man and a Christian' prevented him from being an anti-Semite. I say: My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was his fight against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed his blood upon the Cross. As a Christian, I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice." In a 1928 speech he added ... "We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity ... in fact our movement is Christian." Christians, if you want to be honest, Hitler saw what he did to the Jews as consistent with his Christian faith and Christ's mission, as finishing the fight that Jesus started. His actions were supported by his beliefs. So when you use him as an example, be honest enough to admit that he was on your side as a warrior for Christ. You look stupid when you try to ignore the history we can all read for ourselves. Hitler was most definitely a warped mind, but that warped mind was in some part a product of his Christian beliefs.

Andrew, you can argue all day long about whether the Church supported the Nazis and the Holocaust, but there is a simple fact that condemns them beyond all question. After the Allies had defeated the Nazis in Europe, and the regime had collapsed, they sought to round up as many War Criminals as they could to put them on trial. The Church ran The Rat Line, which was an escape route to help Nazis flee prosecution and escape capture by the Allies. This was after they had lost power, so they weren't being forced to comply and it was after the knowledge of the Death Camps came out, so they can't claim ignorance!

Since citations came up so much, I'll mention that while the Catholic Church did spread antisemitism from the pulpit for centuries, most of the conspiracy theories that the Nazis spread about the Jews came from an Eastern Orthodox Christian source, which was a propaganda pamphlet called "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," which originated in Russia (exact authorship unknown), circa 1902-1904. The document was circulared heavily throughout Europe at the time, and Hitler ran with some of its hateful claims in the 1920s when he wrote Mein Kamph, particularly the baseless claim that the Jews were all part of a secret plot to control the world's banking system as a means of achieving world domination. It's not that the Catholics can be held blameless here... the spirit of what Jimmy is saying holds up, they just weren't the direct source from which Hitler derived his most evil and absurd ideas about the Jews. Those came more directly from the "other Christianity" that came out of the Byzantine Empire.

Jimmy screaming "THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT" might be my favorite clip ever. Not just my favorite clip from The Line, but my favorite clip from anything.

This call is the most succinct demonstration of every single reason why I’m opposed to religion. I’ve probably spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours since KZbin was invented listening to The Atheist Experience and similar secular skeptic awareness shows like this one. Yet I’ve never come across an individual call that illustrates every single bullet point of why religion poisons a person’s mind, until this call. I totally understand Jimmy’s frustration. Even with his explosion at the end, he was far more composed than I ever could be in this scenario. The most frustrating (and disturbing) thing of all is that I share a planet with billions of people who have this same fundamental level of cognitive dissonance.

Absolutely excellent Jimmy. I love the way you get points across logically. It's not hard to land points based on having logic, facts and evidence. It's not much fun debating those whose only evidence is utter rubbish.

In my catholic elementary school back in the 1970’s we had a prayer for the conversion of the Jews. It was such a passive aggressive way to hate and dehumanize.

25:07 Jimmy, speaking of WW2, says that Germans were "almost entirely at this point Catholic". But, that's incorrect. According to wikipedia: "A census in May 1939, indicates that 54% of the population considered itself Protestant, 41% considered itself Catholic, 3.5% self-identified as Gottgläubig (lit. "believing in God"), and 1.5% as 'atheist'. Protestants were over-represented in the Nazi Party's membership and electorate, and Catholics were under-represented."

4:14 "talking bad about religion doesn't help the problem." And? I'm not here to help religion and its horrid "problems." I'm here to expose religion for what it is, and to hold it responsible for the evil it does. Why would an atheist want to help those who hate them and want their destruction?

I know this was a challenging call Jimmy, but at the same time, this is the root of the problem. This level of cognitive dissonance is more the norm than an exception. So how can we help anyone even think about their position when their thoughts are this fragmented? I see the same when discussing evolution, flat earth, etc. I think it is why to us it feels like they are always moving the goal post, but I am starting to realize that their own thoughts are a super position and they can’t even see when they have to bounce back and forth between then.
