The song does get you laughing, it's, so outrageous. Couples at the dances used to start laughing while dancing with their partners back in "lighter times." Fun times.

Your reaction was great. When the original recording hit the market, there was a Louie-Louie type slurred lyrics controversy (end of verse 1) that probably increased the song's popularity and sales. In today's world, of course there'd be the Political Incorrectness issue too.

The "sound" you were referring to seemed to be a "thing" for a little while there. All the Gary U.S. Bonds records sounded like that, I always said it sounded like he was singing in a cave. Interestinng, I never knew about the "ancient origins of the song.

You can hear the influences of Gary "U.S." Bonds' "Quarter To Three" in this song. But no plagiarism trials, it's a different song. The Dave Clark Five also used production styles that were rather lo-fi.

Yeah this was all in good fun. No one tried to hurt anyone’s feelings or anything here lol. I do wanna know if there was an answer song to this. Those were pretty popular at this time, and I’m curious to know if a woman recorded a similar song. I’d love to hear it if there is one. Either way I would like it just as much! It’s nice to sit back and have a laugh, sometimes at ourselves! I’ve actually always liked the humor and fun this song provides. The only other thing about jimmy soul that I know of, is that he got hooked on drugs and that was what mainly killed him. So so sad.
