Jim Valvano speaking in 1987 at the annual meeting of the Million Dollar Round Table. He would go on to incorporate much of this speech into his famous speech at the 1993 ESPYs.

I have listened to this speech so many times. Never gets old. 35 years later and still the greatest, most self motivating speech I have ever heard.

It's ok to be a Tarheel fan, I'm from Raleigh ,grew up 2miles from State, and my brother and others in my family went to State...I like Carolina and especially Dean Smith , he was a good guy and of course Coach.... well 2 out of 3 ain't bad"....but I have to admit Mike K. is a good guy, he was a great friend to Jimmy V., they both came down to NC about the same time and remained good friends, so even though I'm not a "Dukey", I like Coach K

There are precious few people that can walk into a room and you feel a physical energy from just their presence. I was fortunate to have met Valvano on a couple of occasions and he undoubtedly was one of those people. Amazing human being.

This video should have way more views than what’s posted. If we only acted in a small manner of the way Jimmy V presented himself this world would be in such a better place. I am in such a better place for listening/watching this.

I was in Nursing school and worked the weekend day shift at Hardee's during the NCAA tournament. Whenever I got home, NC State was always playing so I saw every one of their games for the 83 tournament. I loved this guy and he made me a State fan, to this day. He changed the face of college basketball. Now, every coach fouls the last 2 minutes, he started that. They also changed the fouls for the last 2 minutes of a game from one shot to automatic 2 shots. Just for starters. He was ahead of his time, absolutely hilarious, and a joy to listen to. Will always love you and the 83 team. Thanks, Jim.

This is one of the best motivational speeches you'll ever see, and it might just be the best around. I used to show this video at the beginning of a tennis camp at which I taught for several years. It moves me every time I watch it like it's the first time. I'm not sure how anyone could dislike this video as 16 people did. I feel badly for you if you're one of the people that disliked this video.
