She is talking about going back to her roots. When she was happy living like a gypsy, she had a room with just a mattress on the floor. It is also about her best friend from childhood who died from Leukemia.

She said the velvet on the floor was from a shop she would frequent.

Going back and revisiting the child in oneself that will fade if allowed, just like the memories of an old friend long gone.

And she had just lost her best friend Robyn, so this song is dedicated to her. When Stevie Nicks says to the gypsy, that remains who faces freedom with a little bit of fear, I have no fear I have only love, and if I was a child and the child was enough for me to love enough to love. Enough to love. Her best friend Robyn had just died and giving birth to a baby and Stevie wanted to raise that baby has her own. It didn’t work out, but Stevie is singing that now she is the single gypsy because her and Robyn were the two gypsies and now there’s just one.

I read her book. They had nothing when they started. So she decorated with lace and velvet and paper flowers. I think she was the happiest then.

Her voice is something very special….the fast vibrato…the phrasing…she sings slightly sharp, but that’s the draw

What she means by so I’m back to the velvet underground is a store in LA that sold really cool, vintage clothing. And then she says she’s back to her first apartment that was covered in lace. She says with some lace and paper flowers. So her apartment was decorated with a lot of lace and silk flowers, and she would shop at the velvet underground.

In the first few lines, Stevie is talking about her room in the old days when she was very poor. The "Velvet Underground" in this case isn't a reference to a group, but to a clothing store she once frequented. I can remember that during the 80s, in the days before the Internet went public and you could access any song at any time, I would be very glad when this came over my car radio. It's one of my favorite songs by them. Here is an interesting and surprisingly good cover by a young brother and sister: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5bEhoWPr8qYnLs

She’s lamenting simpler times when she was free. As with most of her songs, there are so many thoughts interspersed.

It does my heart good to see you young people reacting to her singing because everyone enjoys it, everyone did when it first came out

This song is a song I associate with loss, grieving, and celebrating someone after their death, so you and eye interpret it similarly. There's a remix with a longer vocal at the end that's just her riffing '"I still see your bright eyes, but I can't find you." Right in line with loss.

She used to have her bed on the floor when she was with Lindsey, before FM. At some point, she bought a big huge house and found a room with flower wallpaper that was coming off the wall and she put her mattress on the floor and stayed in there.

More Fleetwood Mac please? Or Stevie Nicks solo? Stand Back, perhaps? She’s unique, like Amy Winehouse.

She had written this initially thinking it would be on her solo album but decided it was too good for that and brought it to Lindsey to work with it more.

Never cared for this song much back when it came out, but I am really enjoying space in here as well Nicks's fine performance to a formulaic pop/rock template.Thumbs up, etc.
