As an Albertan I have camped in Jasper and Banff and I prefer Jasper because it's less crowded. My family celebrated my older sister's birthday in September one year. We all rented tourist cabins together and the cabins all had small kichens and fireplaces. We hiked some great trails and spent an entire day breaking up in teams,and doing a scavenger hunt in Jasper downtown area. We had to find things Ike a cowbell, a stuffed animal, statue of a bear, etc. And take pictures of our finds. The winning team all got gold chocolate medals on lanyards and a trophy containing candy. Our version of the Olympic Games! So fun!

Banff has been a zoo for years, condos going up everywhere. They've been in danger of losing the National Park charter more than once. Jasper is much nicer.

I know what it is too😉 That’s one of the world’s most scenic drives. I’ve done it twice and hope to do it again next summer. Also, in Ontario those are called Muskoka chairs.
@privatename8228 Жыл бұрын
That's interesting. In Nova Scotia Canada those chairs are called Adirondack chairs. We are a huge country with each area using different terms. That's half the fun! 😊
@robertpearson8798 Жыл бұрын
@@privatename8228 I just did some research and I might be wrong here. They look very much the same but Muskoka chairs are about 2 inches taller than Adirondacks and they have a curved back while Adirondacks have flat backs and the arms are about 2 inches further apart. Muskoka is a “cottage country” district a couple of hours north of Toronto.

We call those red chairs Muskoka chairs in Canada. They’re the same as American Adirondack chairs, but they are muskoka chairs here for the cottage country area called Muskoka north of Toronto.

I was born and raised in Prince George, BC. That is a four hour drive west of Jasper. I have driven the Banff - Jasper Highway several time, BUT NEVER (sadly) took the time to explore as you did. I tell anyone who will listen, that drive is the prettiest driver anywhere. The images you are providing are breathtaking and amazing and definitely prove my assertion. I hope you are enjoying your time in Canada and welcome. There is one sad fact about the glacier you visited (if I am correct as to which one it is). When I was in Grade 11 or 12 (1975 or 1976), the geography classes took a 3 day field trip to Jasper and we visited those glaciers. At that time the glacier was were nearly at the highway and we could easily walk to it. In the mid 1990s I took a vacation with my wife and two young daughters and was despondent to see how far back the glacier had retreated. But we could still easily walk to it. A friend of mine just visited the glacier and said the distance from the highway to the glacier is now almost a kilometer and you pretty much have to take one of the ice field vehicles to get to it. So sad what climate change is doing. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

I live in Alberta and I've driven the parkway dozens of times. I only got stuck buying gas at Saskatchewan Crossing once, and learned my lesson. Fill up in lake Louise, fill up in Jasper; I avoid the crossing at all costs. I've done that Wilcox Creek hike a few times. The first time I did it in 1981 we had it to ourselves. The last time I did it was last year, and it's getting pretty crowded now, although not as crowded as Lake Louise, which may well be the busiest tourist spot in Canada. Last year my wife and I drove from the west coast of Vancouver Island to Nova Scotia, and back to Alberta. I don't think I'll do that again, but I'm glad we did it!

Ad back south....if you go to the area of high river....you can go see Maggie's Dinner from heartland. The actual heartland Ranch is only about a 45min drive from there, but it is hard to find....but if you look hard enough, you will find the road and be able to get to the gates. However it is private property so all you can do is look and take a pictue. You actually pass the laydown yard that is just up the road from the Ranch wear the set up the trailers and have all the vehicles used in the show.

Watching Natalie do that crossing of the rock brought me back to a time in my teens where we had been in the backcountry for weeks and were coming out but got totally lost and had been hiking for about 15 miles by the time we came to a huge boulder (van size) field that the only way we could get from one to the other was to lean out like that and then try and step to next one. We had 50+ lbs packs on and this was late in the evening and were exhausted. After doing that about 30 times, I was not holding my weight very well and would face plant onto the rock. Oy, what a day. Once we got out of that field, we finally hit the trail we wanted but was still 8 miles to where we had a ride to pick us up. Needless to say, the ride was no longer there when we walked in around 1am. They did come back the next day and got us though. Thanks for bringing me back to that time. 🤣

The term "All Dressed" began with pizzas, if you ordered a pizza all dressed, it meant with everything. All dressed chips have a combination of chip flavours - usually BBQ, Salt & Vinegar, Ketchup, and sour cream & onion. One maker, Covered Bridge has a unique twist with their Storm Chip flavour where the package the various flavoured chips in a single package (not a combined spice mix)
