Not recognizing oneself could be a symptom of Autism. I also see that he struggles with eye contact by often looking away from the audience and Kimmel. Autism is more common than people want to believe. It's a neurotype that can be present with or without intellectual disability.

I listened to that a few times. At the risk of oversimplification: Jack finds the men he's worked with in the music industry are prone to getting stuck in a self-reinforcing environment wherein they and their people/teams praise their expressions of emotional vulnerability to such an extreme, they've become hypersensitive to their own sensitivities (Kanye is a great example). They're all saying it's okay to just be sitting in one's own sh*t, as a person but particularly as a musical artist. That's not conducive to creativity or growth. Jack, as a person, a man, but particularly as a producer, sees his first responsibility to these guys as entirely pragmatic: in order to for them to create new music, he's gotta get them unstuck, "get them out of that dirty diaper," pull them out of the sh*t they're stuck in-but the very nature of this particular brand of sh*t, Their Own™️, makes this very common function of being a producer extraordinarily difficult even for someone who's as good at it as Jack is. They're so accustomed to it, they don't see it as being stuck, it's not something they see as a problem. Trying to convince someone they're stuck in a self-reinforcing loop of hypersensitivity as a practical action necessary for their growth as an artist will almost always be met with resistance, seen as a personal assault. And that makes people get defensive. Repeat. The "Dad" comparison is likening the artist's inner circle to a stereotypical Boomer/Greatest Gen Dad, collectively sweeping problems under rugs and ignoring the herd of elephants thundering through the proverbial room: Avoid dealing with stuff for long enough, you stop seeing how much harm it's doing. Edit: OMFG this is so long 😂 What is wrong with me? I cannot believe I just spent so long trying to first, understand that, and then to put it into words 🤣🤣 The point? A late night talk show is the least conducive format for the expression of complex, highly nuanced ideas based on personal experience! 👍
