@@DubsMood Yeah vocals are way too far back. I think they're definitely built to SIT in the mix and not be front and center like most modern pop but the live sound makes it sit too far back to the point where you are kind of straining to hear anything he says.

It's definitely reproducible, he's often running a very simple pedal board. The main thing that accomplishes the sound is running the guitar through an old 4-track mixer. I love his sound but there isn't some otherworldly 'organic' source - just some really smart equipment choices! :)

I'm in the same boat. I saw him live twice some years back. My introduction to him was on stage. I was impressed. His style was reminiscent of 70s and 80s but it's changed and has a very unique sound now. While I admittedly like the old sound, the new sound is something I'm adapting to, but I do admire the band trying something different.

I've not seen anyone comment (although I may have misssed it) but there are echoes of certain 1975 songs in his music particulaly How To Draw/ Petrichor, The Ballad Of Me And My Brain, Lostmyhead, I Like it When you Sleep and 12. I found this guy shuffling through youtube's radio giving me random instrumentals. I Iiked a particular song, went on with my life. Only a couple months later, his album drops. Of course, only knowing one song (and it being just instruments) I thought "why am I being suggested this album from an artist I don't know?" And then I pressed play. I'm bummed I forgot to check for a vinyl release as this is my FAVORITE album release in a very very long time. Love it!
