Internet cafes(PC방) started in Korea. Electronic Cafe (Electronic Cafe), which opened in front of Hongik University in Korea in March 1988 and has been operated for three years, is the first PC room in Korea. It was founded by Professor Ahn Sang-soo of Hongik University and Professor Geum Nuri of Kookmin University, who were also members of EMPAL, Korea's first communication club, and at that time, two 16-bit computers were placed to use PC communication through telephone lines. Since then, the world's first Internet cafe is an Internet cafe, which Jung Min-ho first opened in April 1994 under the name of BNC (BIT COMMUNCTION CAFE) in Seocho-dong, Seoul, Korea. BNC Internet cafes were popular as the first Internet cafes at that time. From 1988 to 1993, all of the Internet cafes introduced by the media were "electronic cafes," but the terms "Internet Cafe," "Modem Cafe," "Network Cafe," and "Cyber Cafe" began to be used in 1994. The following year, in the summer of 1995, Internet cafes were created in Jongno and Hongdae, allowing college students to use them. At that time, Internet cafes were able to connect to Hi-tel through PC communication using ISDN and phone modems to enable text-oriented communication, and by connecting PCs and TVs to large television monitors, strangers could play Go using communication and play games using communication such as Jurassic Park.

Internet cafes in Korea are still alive and well, but as time goes on, their enthusiasm is waning little by little. The biggest reason is that as the average computer specification in Korea has increased, it is possible to enjoy games together while talking on the phone with friends through Discord at home with better computers than Internet cafe. In fact, if you want to play popular games like LoL, PUBG, or OW2 with your friends, you don't even need a high-end computer. (Like GTX 1060 3GB)

In the Philippines, we also have Internet Cafes. A few years back, I still hangout with my friends in an internet cafe even though we had our own pc and own internet connection at home. Its always like this since I was in high school, then college and even when I had starting working already. It's always better to play in friends. Losing and winning together. It's just something many people do not understand. When COVID hit, I think most internet cafes closed. I can see some of them opening up again. I hope the next generation of gamers get to experience what we had experienced. This video bring back memories.

The staff are generally cool and can help you but PC bangs in Vietnam, Thailand or even Japan are easier to use because they always have a clear language change option on the login screen. Would help a lot.

Our cafe wasn't quiet by any means. We played music from our log-in computer (I played Trance and worked the graveyard shift to keep people playing longer). As far as food, we had snacks and a soda vending machine.

There's an internet cafe culture here in Greece as well and even though many of the services are similar to Koreas, some are just mind-blowing. They make some (pizza, sandwiches etc.) food and beverages but this legit cooking you have in Korea is amazing, I wish to try it sometime. Great video btw 🙏🏼🙏🏼

At that time, Internet cafes were able to connect to Hi-tel through PC communication using ISDN and phone modems to enable text-oriented communication, and by connecting PCs and TVs to large television monitors, strangers could play Go using communication and play games using communication such as Jurassic Park.

Yes PC bangs are for people who want to shout at their friends, it brings that LAN party vibe. But it's also for introverts who like the feeling of human energy around them but don't have to actually talk or interact with them. It gets you out of the house/tiny apartment. It's social osmosis.

I love seeing this internet cafe content because I have good memories of internet cafes in my high school years. Since now I'm a full-time employee at IKEA, sometimes I give myself a chance to come back and play again in internet cafe when I'm off to work, but it feels so different and I didn't feel the same way before I'm playing. I used to play for 5-6 hours a day, playing only League of Legends with friends. And now I'm almost giving up in 2-3 matches. I want to play again but the responsibilities first because of adulthood and got bills to pay and mouths to feed. And now I am playing my own game life :(

The US is too rural and with the advent of pcs and game consoles, making people enjoy time at home. I believe arcades are the closet we would get like at a mall, FAR away..., or "lan" parties, the fortunate ones. High density areas are more lucky, as these ideas are more accessible, like korea, japan, etc.

The first Internet cafe with the "PC bang" concept opened in April 1994 in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, Korea, under the name BNC. BNC is known as the first internet cafe in Korea and the first in the world. The early PC cafes were often priced at 500 Korean Won per hour, but they survived by evolving into almost an 'internet cafe+restaurant' concept as the specifications of home computers became very good. If they had simply provided internet-capable PCs, PC cafes would have almost gone out of business in Korea. This reminds me that any industry needs to change with the times to survive.
