An extra grand for a mower that will cut for one hour. So add $250 for a third 10ah battery if more mow rime is needed. And it won’t move under power without the blades moving. Your experience with your gas model, and this comparison, reinforces my desire for the gas model. Good video!

1 hr in nice dry grass, ideal conditions. Don't you dare mow wet heavy grass or in extreme temps or the batteries will overheat and go into circuit protection mode. I'm sure the crews will love have multiple lunch breaks per day while the batteries cool off.

THANK YOU for finally making this video. No powered transport is a deal breaker for a mower this heavy. I'd hate to be the person who made the decision to remove that feature. I'm off to try to get one more Honda before they stop making them.

Mine is being delivered on Wednesday and I can’t wait! I have a little less than a half acre lot but we have a pool and gardens so it usually takes me about an hour to mow. Now that I know about the blades I’m going to just run the regular blades and I already have a third 10Ah battery and will mulch on max…can’t wait to see what’s left on the batteries. I currently have a gas Timemaster.

If they did 2 motors the blades would no longer be able to avoid hitting each other without a total deck redesign to offset the blades as most dual blade mowers do. They obviously wanted to avoid doing that.

Nice, video Jimmy. I have to say after testing this mower myself, I have been really disappointed in it. During a normal maintenance mow it was tearing the grass blades and leaving lots of uncut grass in the auto and max power mode. To remove the blade stop feature was a huge mistake. For the current price point of $2400 I think they should have really spent more time on the overall design. Have you been having cut quality issues?

I plan on chaining three 21" 60v Super Recyclers together for a 63" mow deck with 3 motors and 3 7.5 ah batteries. People will say that's an insane amount of money to spend on mowers, but it'll be $2 cheaper than the 60v eTimeMaster. Insane that Toro thinks thats reasonable.

I ordered the day my Toro dealer was able to place an order. First I'm learning of the inability to transport under power with the blade off. Hugely disappointing as that was a main reason I bought the gas Timemaster. Hopefully Toro takes advantage of further improvements battery power allows over gas with a gen 2 eTimemaster (ie no belts at all, direct drive motors for each blade). Still excited my neighbors wont have to hear that massive B&S engine on the gas version.

I have had the SAME issue on my 2016 Toro 30 in TimeMaster. It NEVER starts hot. There was a recall to change the crummy paper fuel filter, but i solved that design flaw, where the fuel feed is only 1/2 in drop from the tank outlet to Briggs 120000 series engine carb. I lashed on my Honda GCV190 Tank and a nice long hose, with a Disc filter and Shutoff valve from Home Depot. The Briggs recall is to install a metal HEAT SHIELD between the cyl head and float bowl, to fix hot restarting. I often do better than that, just get some silver foil faced R-MAX foam insulation, maybe cut 3x5in,, smash a recess to fit behind the float bowl with a small hammer, and shove it in place above the black plastic belt guard cover. surfaces, that worked for a few years,then needed to cool things down with Starting fluid or Gumout to restart hot. I then replaced the carbs several times with the inexpensive ones on Amazon. Worked a little better than Briggs OEM. FINALLY, I did replace the Magneto coil and shutoff switch, but yesterday PROVED THE NEW ONE IS INTERMITTENT. Got an adjustable Spark Tester, set for 10KV gap or larger - NO OUTPUT!!!!!!!!!!! Then I took the old one, sanded the pole pieces and TAPED the entire HV lead with 3M Electrical tape, and split the plastic insulator sleeve from my new Spark Tester, covering the CHAFED section where the muffler heatshield abradedi it. BINGO, it finally started! I then checked the Compression cold, but forgot to open the throttle plate - it read almost 30lbs. We also replaced the crummy HEAD GASKET again, with the 2nd gasket in the $42 Amazon kit, which HAS A NICE METAL fire ring, but is for the 223CC Upgraded engine all the Yard Service guys pay $500 new, to finally fix the underpowered temperamental 190. I found the old gasket BLEW OUT near the Exhaust side, a second time, vapor from all my Starting Fluid was coming out. Another telltale sign was the 4 head bolts were NOT TIGHT. I should have retourqued to the 125 in-lbs spec AGAIN after a month. Since 70lbs seems to be the spec for these 190CC motors, I WILL be buying a new Piston, Rings, and Wrist pin set, and the 2 different length Rod bolts to raise the crummy 30lbs that is causing stalling issues. And my friend set the VALVE clearances ay 0.006in, AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW thicker gasket. It starts if I put the choke rod in, but soon I fave to remove it, and flip the choke spring 180 degrees over, to the main governor spring post, r it will bog down too rich! When I get anther $500 saved up, I am going to Toro Menders in ATL to buy a replacement 223CC engine, and a new DECK for another $100. Final note, there is a Hi Lift Blade kit, including a new front V shaped shield that bolts in with the front wheels assy - critically IMPORTANT, IT USED TO just fill the chute with grass. ------------- for the past 8 years it will FILL the bag with even wet grass- My thoughts, nothing else is safe on my sloped back yard, and at 150lbs for me, I can easily handle this 135lb mower. Just skip the $200 more Electric Start option, because it will be clunkier to use there. Just my thoughts after 8 years of Time Master troubles. And I replaced many broken cables, worn bearings, and belts Fyi, Hilary in GA

It's never going to be the same due to the lower lift blades. You can put high lift blades on but be prepared for much less run time. So maybe not an issue if your lawn is really small or else you will need extra batteries.

@@GlennMcKeon-n5s 20AH can do a lot. I can mow 10k Square Feet with 7.5 AH in my Ego mower and I can handle that. To me around 20k square feet is a good amount, if you have acres to mow then stick to a gas rider.
@nobrien1
@nobrien1 Жыл бұрын
I have a 3-4 year old Toro 60V mower (model 20353). The average house lot size in the U.S. is less than a quarter acre, so after you take out the square footage for the house, driveway, and landscaping, the area to mow is even less. My point is that you don't need as big mowers as you are talking about in this video for most people. My Toro uses a single battery and I only use about 2/3 of it to mow my net 1/4 acre lawn. Additionally, the distances to push the non-running mower are much smaller so not having it running while moving it isn't really an issue. If you look at new 22 inch mowers at Home Depot, the Toro electric 22 inch recyclers are about $125 more today than the Toro gas versions. But, you don't have to buy gas, do tune-ups, oil changes, etc. The battery should be good for many hundreds of recharges and overall lithium ion battery costs are declining geometrically so a future replacement will be less expensive. And, electric motors basically last forever. (If I remember correctly, the motors in the trolley cars in San Francisco lasted for like 70 years.) Lastly, while not a reason by itself to change to electric, there is a side benefit of less pollution. Studies have shown that running a gas mower for an hour creates the same pollution as driving a car for 50 - 100 miles (varies by study). I understand that electric isn't the solution today for every lawn situation today but I do think it is for the average homeowner, and it will be for more and more as the technology evolves.

Disappointing that they stayed with the same belt and pulley system. That’s the Achilles Heel of the gas models IMO. I’ve gone through every belt/pulley/spindle at least once and most of them 2 or more times in 9 years as a homeowner mowing approx .5 acre of turf. I was excited about this model until I realized it’s the same as the gas model with the addition of an electric motor. :(

@@LL-mt2nz - That's the right approach if you ask me. Quality takes precedence and that makes the work more pleasant. Everything has to be fine with me, from sharp blades to the best trimmer line to the perfect 10w30 and spark plugs. And therefore years of fun. And of course also great results due to the experience that has been built up over the years. But to make a switch to electric now ... I don't see myself doing that right away. Perhaps in a few years some elements, including a hedge trimmer. Although I am extremely satisfied with the HS 87. A GX 35 from Honda weighs a bit too heavy for me, I may replace it with a Stihl that is more manoeuvrable. And even then, the main reason for me is that I had a tendon transfer to the shoulder two years ago, which makes abduction uncomfortable after some time. My garden is a modest 1,600 Square Meters so that's not too bad. The Advanta Renova overseeding looks beautiful. Only here and there voles that cause damage, but that is taking shape. Grtz.

This was clearly rushed to market by on-the-cheap-hastily hacking a brushless elec motor atop the existing TimeMaster cutting deck and drive system. Oh and for some extra fun and added value they decided to rewove the standard modern mower's ability to propel the mower sans blades engaged. Super disappointing... This electrified TmeMaster release should of been an opportunity for Toro to take their time and offer a completely redesigned 'E-TimeMaster' like model completely re-engineered from the ground up. I'm thinking something like a high-end EGO with dual blades and the signature TimeMaster 30" wide cut. I'd like to imagine somewhere in Toro-land there's a building where engineers tear down and evaluate competitors electrified mowers for ideas, reverse engineering, etc?!?!? If so, they'd at least have some idea of what a modern elec mower benchmark for features should be which this clearly is nowhere even close. On the positive side, at least they went the cheap/safe route so it being nothing more than a warmed-over classic TimeMaster with an elec motor it should be tough and reliable insofar as the cutting deck/drive system. So there's that... I honestly cannot think of any even remotely valid use cases for buying this mower, especially so given the significant additional purchase cost over the existing time-tested ICE model, unless one is somewhere like California or some place that has or will soon mandate the stop-sale and/or use of ICE powered push-mowers. For the asking price they could of at least included a third battery for some additional run-time - at least something to incentivize folks to buy this overpriced, under-engineered-featured 'e-mower' version of a classic ICE TimeMaster. End of rant...

It makes you lose credibility when you come off looking biased like that. It detracts from your attempt to present yourself as the "trusty nice guy". Is it because you are sponsored? The technology is here for electric spindles to run the blades - look at the Revolution Series. The belts are problematic. In my light commercial work they need at least yearly adjustment and/or replacement. The extra grand for electric over gas is mainly buying you batteries. I myself own a 21" commercial Revolution and love it. Can't afford the rest of the Revolution Series yet. I will wait on the 30" until it is beltless, and joins the Revolution series. Ease of maintenance is one of the main reasons you buy electric, and this 30" misses the boat.

Max battery life means minimized power. Dont buy toro electric mowers. They are a hot pile of crap. Stick to gas if you want a toro.
