Jimmy I know on the podcast you’ve talked about this not being a lifelong career. If that day ever does come please do the world a favor and do something educational with your engineering and communication skills. I feel like I’ve gotten more out of watching your content thru the years than I got from the degree I spent tens of thousands on. Thank you always

love the build! would love to see you guys check the valve lash though - new cams can always be a mistery. would be easy to check it now with a feeler gauge, rather than have excsessive lash or too little :) Keen on hearing her purrrrr. Much love from Germany

Turns out to be a great deal. The complete rolling chassis is mint with low mileage and the MK4 2JZ turned out to be solid. Good score Jimbo!

I agree patience is key when assembling an engine. Take your time, double check your work as you go. If something doesn't seem right stop and figure it out. You shouldn't ever have to force anything. 🤘

If the engine was sitting for a long time with moisture inside, you probably should've done the headgasket while youre doing everything else. Pretty sure its MLS from factory, couldnt it potentially be compromised via rust/oxidation? No worries about machining or Decking the block/head, just use a sharpening stone (wider than the block) for a quick resurface, very common practice here in New Zealand and over in Aussie, necessary prep for MLS Gasket

Collapsible magnet through the bottom of a socket, place socket over stock retainer. Give it a healthy tap with the hammer, magnet grabs keepers and you save a ton of time on removal.

If you wrap the shank of the screw driver with a piece of wire and then short the wire to the positive and negative of a battery it will also magnetize the screw driver.

I did this on my b5 s4, used the same tool to compress the springs to take the keepers out and the trick is slide a jack handle over the handle of the tool so you can put leverage on it easier, its better on your hands and arms cus it can be quite annoying trying to fit those keepers back in place, also correct me if im wrong but you dont need to put air in the cylinders or anything as long as its at tdc, i did it without air and only thing was i had to be careful of not moving the valve while trying to compress the spring. Took a few days but very rewarding job

FYI; you can use a company23 valve spring compressor tool. you have to slightly hone the bolt holes for the tool. trust me, its significantly easier and faster to change valve springs on most toyota, and subaru heads.

You actually don't want to lube both sides of the washer. The side against the head should be dry. Otherwise, it acts as a bearing and tou will over torque them.

Sick video Jimmy! Lots of great info and will be referencing this in the spring when i do valve seals on my 1JZ Foxbody. Any good resources for factory Toyota procedures you showed? Can confirm Italian tune up will help those valves seat better.

If you don't have compressed air you can push soft nylon rope down the plug hole with the engine at BDC (bottom dead center) when it's full of rope turn the crank so the piston goes up and pushes the rope against the valves so they can't fall down. Use brand new rope for every cylinder.
@michaelre75568 ай бұрын
