I don't get how this saves you that much money. The big expenses on the other plane were the engines needing a $20,000 check and replace overhaul each (same engines here, still need an overhaul) and new cockpit instruments/avionics (which you're still going to want to do, since you were talking about an $80,000 setup or something for the original 310). The sheet metal work was a relatively small part of the financial picture you were painting. I suppose there's significant time savings by way of not having the wiring butchered and having an interior for the thing, but it's up to you if that's worth the added expense.
@foxyloon2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that 411 is a time capsule! That interior screams mid 60s and I absolutely adore it for that! Looks to be mostly stock as well, and the fact that it's low hour for the age suggests that's definitely the case. Considering how fully loaded that plane is, it's basically the Cessna Citation of it's day, huh? Hehehe, "N310MM". It's definitely meant to be! I love it when the parts vehicle is in better shape than what you're currently working on. IMO, it would make sense just to fix up MM and make the first 310 the parts plane. Kinda goes against the ethos of "Save the 310" but I'd rather see a solid plane with good potential being saved than parted out to resurrect what's frankly a glorified parts pile/rat sewer biohazard.

Prop synch also lessens vibration and prop noise. One of the tactics used by the Japanese during World War II was to fly twin engine aircraft over Allied controlled islands at night with one prop at a different RPM than the other prop. The out of synch props make a weird and highly annoying noise which would disturb sleeping. These night flights were dubbed as "washing machine Charlie". The 411 would make a heck of a family hauler.

411 engines are super expensive to overhaul if you can even find someone to do it. There was a time when no insurance company would insure the 411. They were a dangerous airplane. Then the VG’s came out and that helped. They increased the horsepower and added a much bigger tail which helped the safety. Then they added pressurization and called it the 421.

Jimmy im no airplane mechanic but i have been wrenching for 30 plus years. check your valve seals and guides. the seals will dry out sitting and when you resart an old engine they can crumble. valve seals would allow oil to enter the cylinders while sitting. could be a cheap fix for the 310 engines.
@C76Caravan2 жыл бұрын
411? Nice, rarer then the ubiquitous 410. Plus weather radar scope. Didn't know you can swap straight to swept tail on the 310s, though straight tail looks better to me somehow, probably also because of the old and rare factor. There are way more newer 310/320s, so also way more swept tails flying around.
@karaayers28672 жыл бұрын
Straight tail probably gives more rudder authority. And more stress on the tail in heavy crosswind, thus the cracks
@C76Caravan2 жыл бұрын
@@karaayers2867 Straight out swept tail rudder authority can be the same, because you do move the center of lift for the rudder backwards, thereby increasing the moment arm. Advantage is, then you can reduce the surface area of the tail and rudder a little in turn to get the same aerodynamics, but the internal design of the tail gets more complex and potentially heavier, though as one can see by the proliferation of swept tails over the past 60 or so years, that issue isn't really as much as an issue anymore, to miss out on the advantages of a swept tail. So might help a little with crosswinds, as the area impacted is a tad smaller, though you do still have usually the same moment arm.

The device is ozone generator, sold as air purifier. It does eliminate odors but it is not safe to stay in the room when it is working. Ozone can cause serious damage to respiratory system. Following is from EPA website, "When inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs. Relatively low amounts of ozone can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and, throat irritation. It may also worsen chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma as well as compromise the ability of the body to fight respiratory infections." How much amount of ozone is bad: if you can smell it, it is bad. And if you can't smell it, it is not doing its thing.

Then scrap the stripped airframe keeping flaps and tail assembly and landing gear etc and some spare engine cowling panels, maybe a window or two and door and any good fuel tanks?

1:31 The device you showcased is actually an ozone generator - something which you should not use in any inhabited space while there are people in it as it is known to damage lung tissue with sustained exposure and in the shorter term may lead to sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest pain. In short for anyone reading DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT OR OTHERS LIKE IT WHILE YOU ARE IN PROXIMITY TO IT. Also ozone can damage many materials especially Neoprene, plastics, rubber, fabrics, and vinyls (this includes insulation on most wires).

I watched this video again and this time noticed the heart felt determination you have with the original 310. Best wishes hope my previous jokes weren’t taken seriously. Best wishes

Perhaps save the 411. That model is very rare. None for sale in the US right now from what I can find. As to the 310, well I do like the Frankenplane plan. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Sounds like a good plan. Now if you can just find a 310 that was fully updated and then did a ground loop, then you could grab all the fresh wiring and other goodies from there. Nothing is quite as nice as installing a new wiring harness, bypasses so many issues.

The twin 411 turbo back in the day apparently was a chick magnet 🧲. Deep clean that interior. Looking for to seeing this plane fly again. Good luck sir!

Ok. Now, after watching your last video 3 times….loved it. An old saying comes to mind…”When you get to the bottom of the hole, stop digging”.
