Hi! Greetings from just outside Charlotte, North Carolina (in what's referred to as "The Heart of NASCAR"). You are correct! Most teams have on their pitbox a wheel hub mounted to it, with spare lug nuts. prior to the race you can see the tire changers tightening and loosening the lugs on this setup to keep themselves fresh for the pitstops. Additionally, the major teams all have pit crew academies for the sole purpose of auditioning, training, and practicing pit crews. It's a major facet of the championship...and teams spend boatloads of money on it. But Riichan is right, they're proper crazy. The amount of things they have to get absolutely right in less than ~14 seconds while dodging their own driver's car and about 3 or 4 other cars is wild.

I remember back when I went to the nascar museum in Charlotte there was a thing where you can see just how fast you are at doing the star pattern? you picked up the impact gun, went to a lug, click the trigger, then next one, then next one, etc. I wasn't so good at speed, and under pressure I'd probably do even worse.

Aren't the lugnuts held onto the wheels with wax or grease or something or did they change that? People think Nascar is just turning left, they don't realize it's a team sport...

NASCAR is one of the last racing series to have five lugs for there wheels. Everyone else from WEC, IMSA, and F1 use the single central nut or hub nut or whatever they call it. And in F1 they have 16+ crew members to make a pit stop in just 2 seconds. There's a video out there where they have pit stop from all different series that's pretty cool to watch.

A massive part of why I watch you is because you provide subtitles for translation. Breaking down that barrier makes everything so much more interesting/enjoyable and gives us insight into attitudes and way of life and humour and character that we wouldn’t normally get. You could film someone changing your wheels and eating ramen a lot and I wouldn’t stop clicking on the thumbnail. Great video Alexi, thanks 👍🏽

The first part of the video is the most interesting. I recall another video on Japan about tires and wheels that many shops wouldn't put custom wheels or tires on cars and now without a lot of hoops. Its good to know that second hand shops like this can be found to help resolve some of that. I follow a bunch of Caprice Wagon owners in Japan and always wonder how they get wheels and tires there.

Alexi, showing that you change the wheels must also be done. But talking about bad luck that your spare wheel had a broken valve takes me back the memory lane on my first flat tire then taking out the Spare one to find out it's only half pumped with air 🤣. So I hitchhiked back home to get the manual air pump and the excuse was there why I didn't make it to the school but that was 2 decades ago.

Just so everyone knows. In the us the closest vehicle to this is called a Suzuki Samurai, from there you can look at a Suzuki sidekick which is similar, geo has a tracker, Chevy also has a tracker and I believe there is one more. From there it moves to a vitara or grand vitara they have a couple generations as well. The samurai is the only one that comes with a straight axel from factory like a jimmy the rest are ifs. I know In other countries they have rebadged sidekicks I believe called a suntour. Anyways hope this helps anyone interested in this cool rig😁
