If anyone is curious, the cartridge oil filter wrench to loosen and tighten the cap is 64-mm.

Much obliged, Jim, this Wednesday is my last free service day for my Toyota CHR 2019 LE, so I started looking up how to do oil change and found this video. Thanks for this tutorial, stay safe out there.

You just gained another subscriber. Not only you’re a well articulated person, but you went step by step to the point of even resetting the maintenance light. And thanks to this detailed video, I changed my sister’s oil and filter. Thank you very much!

Isn't it funny Jim how canister/ cartridge type filters were in older cars then we went to spin on filters now so many new vehicles have canister/cartridge type again? Great job as always Jim!

FWIW, our 2019 had a normal metal cased cannister filter, not that cartridge filter, and the auto parts place listed both for that year. The cannister filter was Fram FF4967. Very small, so you need a filter wrench that goes really small.

I have a 2018 and it also uses the FF4967

Thank you for the instruction. It will come in handy after the warranty expires. I have a good sense of smell and know the smell of fresh engine oil. On the dipstick the oil looks clear but the smell is polluted by exhaust fumes. Does this mean something dangerous for the engine? This is a 2021 C-HR hybrid with 2,000 miles, 0-W16 oil. The car is rarely used. I brought it to the dealer's attention during the inspection but they say it's normal and I don't really believe them.

Why did you change the O-ring? Just to have a better one on there, or was it damaged?
@JPuReTaLeNt3 жыл бұрын
O Ring comes with all the new filters so it’s best just to get rid of the old one and use the new one supplied each time

Toyota actually is recommending 10k mile oil changes on these, not that that would be a good idea but 5k oil changes would be best.
@johnfakester5527 Жыл бұрын
Notes to self: Full synthetic motor oil 0-W20, on the back should say gf5 equivalent - 4.4 - 4.5 quarts back in - 10mm bolts for the cover - Canister filter needs a 64mm cap tool for loosening and tightening - Drain plug is 14mm - Make sure gasket comes off with drain plug - When taking off the canister filter let it drain when you break it loose and then remove after that - Take note of how the replacement should go into the filter canister and how the gasket was placed before as well - Tighten by hand completely then come in with tool
@snorkosaurus3 жыл бұрын
shouldn't you measure how much came out and the pour exactly the same amount back in ?

That might be a good practice for transmission fluid but oil you can go by the dipstick.

I will not go to Toyota to get my car serviced again for oil changes or any other type of maintenance because every time I leave there either light stays on an idiot light I'm talking about or I get a flat tire or something ripped underneath like the plastic fender cover was missing a few plastic clips to keep it on so that was making noise I mean maybe they want me back last time I was there they tried to charge me over $3,000 my under the vehicle plastic cover was halfway in different I said I need a transmission now before I go there I always check everything especially fluids I put all fluids in on top of them off I took my transmission fluid and it was fine it was topped this is one of those CVT transmission so you can't tell really where the topping is I heard you can stick your pinky in and check the fluid that way as long you can feel or see fluid on the tip of your pinky anyways I did that when I left I checked it with my dipstick because I did not feel anything with my I put my dipstick in all the way and there was barely enough showing now I have no transmission problems and thank I checked it right away and stuck right down the street got me some fluid and the guys hit the auto parts help me to fill it in the Corvette level never going back because that was the last job
