Its like 'power aikido'!!! I love it, looks very very very effective and dangerous, or rather, debilitating if applied! and props to the dummies, if they don't know what they are doing they could seriously be hurt, and i meen seriously! they are just as amazing as the featured technician!

@jabxhook: Part 2 of my previous message. The "targets" or assailants in martial arts demos have to be trained how to fall and be thrown properly, which accounts for the students or assistants; otherwise they would suffer severe injury when the techniques are done to them. Being an "uke" - the guy having the techniques done to you, is in many ways harder than being the guy doing them. Believe me, it is painful, even you are experienced and in shape. The techniques work, believe me.

Also I worked with GARLAND in IRAQ doing PSD for USA Abmassador to Iraq. CHRIS is the REAL deal one of the best Martial artist ive ever seen. and Fighting MMA he has more heart than anyone here knows! I watched him fight live with a dislocated shoulder, but he gave his word to fight so he did. Also he was on TEAM USA when we fought in Romainia. Chris was kicked so hard in the nutsw it broke his cup. He had to get a 3 inch needle in his groin.

@allblacksnumber1: BTW, don't let being thirty bother you. I started as a forty-something and am now a deputy blackbelt. The toughest, best fighters in my club are all over 30-years of age, and a couple of them are over-forty. HKD works at any age, for any build, if you are willing to train hard and stick with it long enough. It does take years to master the art well-enough to use it effectively at all times - but that's true of any martial art. Best of luck to you and train hard.

Contrary to alot of the comments I've seen posted here I am not going to comment to pick a fight about any of this. As many before me have posted this is merely a demonstration of the fluidity of the locks, take down counters and striking abilities of the art. I've been training Hap Ki Do for 2 years now and I can confidently say that certain locks and holds will work if executed properly. I bounce at a bar and lemme tell you the '3rd guy' definitely thinks twice after you put down his buddy.

@allblacksnumber1: hapkido, like aikido, is a good martial art for women or anyone who wants to rely on technique instead of raw power and speed to defend themselves. HKD has these things, but they are applied scientifically, using the principles of physics, circular motion, and blending with the attack to inflict the maximum effect for the least effort and risk to yourself. But don't be afraid to get hit; fighting involves taking your lumps and the sooner you do that, the better off you'll be.

Now that's not saying that everytime these techniques will work flawlessly. Master Garland has trained for a very long time to get to the skill he is at right now. Hopefully one day I will be able to have a fraction of the ability he has. But the biggest thing with martial arts is humility and control. Granted yes I state I use some of the locks in a real life scenario working the bar...and yes they do work...but I've also had them not work because of limitations placed on me.

Im telling you those of you that were not there nor have ever trained or seen Chris Garland live, You cannot talk trash! Period!! Garland trained in california with the TOP mma school around Crazy Bob Cook, John Fitch etc. UFC fighters that trained with Garland. thats how he blew his shoulder out. But since Garland had TOP VIP's coming to the event and he gave his word he did not pull out. He had BROOKS N DUNN county Music TOP 10 group in the crowd just for him.

I love what happens at 00:21 - why the heck does he flip over like that when there's really nothing touching him? In Judo, we'd call that being a "good uki". Maybe he's some Sith / Jedi master who can move things with the force.

so that being said I've gotten humbled on some odd nights cause I don't see that '3rd guy'. Bottom line, if you think it's fake and call bullshit on it. Why not go check out a Hap Ki Do dojang and simply ask to sit in on a class. The dojang I train at always has it's doors open to people interested in seeing what it has to offer. Any martial art, if trained dedicatedly at for an extended period of time, can be very effective to the user.

@jabxhook: HKD doesn't work in the real world? Wanna bet? Steve Sexton, the real-life subject of that ridiculous Patrick Swayze movie from the 1980s, is an 8th dan in Hapkido, and also a seasoned security professional with hundreds of hand-to-hand fights to his credit, some against multiple attackers with weapons. John Pellegrini's Combat hapkido is the hand-to-hand system of choice for militaries, law enforcement and security pros all over the world, including our own spec ops people.

@shadec: If you bounce after only two years of HKD, you must be pretty good already. Pick up Steve "Road House" Sexton's DVDs; he is an 8th dan in the art and also a seasoned security professional with hundreds of real world encounters to his credit. The 1980s movie was based on his life, but the martial arts in that film bear very little resemblance to hapkido. Sexton is the real deal... check him out, some of his stuff is on You Tube for free.

Thank you.. I have the honor of training with another JJK Hapkido Master.. Unless you've had a Master of JJK Hapkido take hold of you, don't talk shit.. the smallest movement is extremely painful and will bring a big man to the feet of a small woman if performed correctly. And to ordaboy - come to my school in Corinth Texas and see if you don't crack within the first few seconds of small-joint manipulation practice (from the ground or not). Promise

too many comments on almost many of the martial arts out there. Most of us are brain washed by UFC MMA application. Martial art again is for self-defense. The average person out there are you people. If you think you're strength and conditioning is average than there are some one out there probably even less with no training. So take some of this for thought, most thugs aren't trained and that's what we take MA for is for pure self-defense. If you wanna fight take up MMA that's all.

The Karate kidder is the biggest joke in Nashville. This guy fights under fake names so when he loses no one will find out. MMA will be legal in Nashville soon and I'd love to see him fight someone from Nashville MMA. I'd fight him for free but he's a bit small for me. We've got a number of guys here that would beat his ass. I highly doubt the kidder will fight in his home town though...he'd be exposed even more!!!LOL Josh Schockman

yes, but statistically 95% of fights end up on the ground, so if your pretty fairy kick at :50 doesnt work against three attackers then you might wanna learn some bjj just incase. which by the way teaches all the same stuff they show here, disarming knives guns eye gouging groin grabbing etc. just not to the begginers. MMA is a sport, how do you defeat an MMA fighter? you get in the ring with him and play the game, how do you defeat a ground fighter? you grow some balls, dont rely on guy #3.

I am sorry so say your knife work is fasle, nice floor work from the attaker but the rest is too dangerous to even commet, if you meet up with a real knife fighter, truely believe you guys will be injured severely. Should removed these scene only works in movies. May be the counter attack will not go so smoothly if the knife attaker does not leave his hand out there for half a second. I think you know what i mean.
