Return home at 80, became a prince. Absolute chad Sima Fu
@Binary843 ай бұрын
Sima Yan obviously skipped his history classes. There was already a precedent to Jin's rebellion of the eight princes, that was the rebellion of the seven states during the Han Dynasty.

Sima Yan doing his part on fomenting Chinese civil megawars by doing it like a Crusader Kings 3 player with overextensive lands granted away to his clan kindred and relative followers!

Sima Fu was like 85 or 86 when Jin was established? The guy still manages to live for another 6 years, damn he's just built different And one of his descendants also became very important during late Northern Song era, these Simas just don't stop being important, my lord...

If one of the later Han Emperors had lived that long there might not have been a three kingdoms.

Which descendant? Is it Sima Guang?
@TheSeaAsian3 ай бұрын
@@MillerZhanged Yeah its him. Apparently Sima Guang was also the main writer of the Zizhi Tongjian too, and I remember SeriousTrivia also at times references from this work. He's a very important figure, and I find it pleasant that there's somehow a link between Sima Fu with one of China's most revered historical records.

Really interesting! It makes sense that the unintended consequences led to the 8 princes war!

Did Sima Yan's new Grand Excellencies positions survive past their initial officeholders demise and if so, did successor states keep them?

3 top level military posts? I'm sure that'll work out just fine. Well, I'm given to understand that Grand Commandant is like Minister of Defence and is more civil than military but what's the division of duties between supreme military commander and Grand General?
@SeriousTrivia3 ай бұрын
Da Sima ranks above the Grand General. These two are the actual military general ranks.
@frost90413 ай бұрын
@@SeriousTrivia I see, one other question. I notice that the rank Da Sima and the name Sima seemingly share the same characters if I didn't misremember. Which use came first?
@SeriousTrivia3 ай бұрын
The are the same term with the same characters. The origins of the Sima surname is someone who had the position and decide to use it as their surname. There are a lot of surnames that are also the name of government positions. For example Cao is another case of this. So technically the government position names came first and then when someone decided to use it as their surname, it came second. This reflect a much more ancient time in Chinese history when surnames and naming in general has few rules and structure.
