I think it's more because she thought her parent might think it's a fake dating, as she wants to stop her parents from pushing her to find a husband...before she said she's single and suddenly come a BF out of no where at new year day before she left. It sounds indeed rather unbelievable. Hence she wants to wait a while before breaking the news to make it more realistic. But well...her BF is petty and take revenge..spilling the beans LOL.
