"What Child Is This" is the really brilliant Jingle Cats arrangement. The way it turns just a tad sinister, especially when the cats react to the dog coming in the middle of their Christmas Carol with that pleading "Hava Nagila" with it's Jewish tones. They aren't having any of it no matter how much that dog insists. We had the original album and this cut was always my favorite one to introduce new people to.

The first song I ever heard to the tune of "What Child is This"/"Greensleeves" was "Sir Greenbaum's Madrigal" by Allan Sherman. To this day, whenever I hear this tune, in my mind I hear Allan Sherman singing. This song is also known as "Snowflakes" as a rocking instrumental by the Ventures. By the way, the song I hear when I hear "O Tannenbaum" is the state song I learned as a 4th grader in Maryland.

In the UK, we call that first tune 'Greensleeves'. It's a very old folk song reputedly written by King Henry VIII. I never knew it was also called 'What Child Is This'. But I loved the Hava Nagila part best!
