I needed to get this nib & pen. Great interesting nib, writes very well. May be hard to find.

I have several Jinhao pens. But this one is by far the best of the bunch. It wrote just by posing it on the paper. No need to intervene the nib in any way. Amazing.

I now have a few 9019s and x159s and love all their nibs. I really have to give kudos to Jinhao for stepping up their game. The heartbeat nib is enticing. I'll be adding it to my collection :). Hope you are doing well. and thanks for sharing.

A few years ago I was trolled for writing that the Chinese pen industry is at that crossroad where their Japanese counterpart was in the eighties. Do not forget that all designs began copying some German or British designs back then.

I was thinking about ordering one of these just because I was curious whether a nib with a jiggly slit could make ink flow as well as a straight slit . . . or at all. But because Chris has tested this one, I no longer have to wonder about that and, curiosity satisfied, I can now hold out for one in a colour that I like. Thanks, Chris!

I have two 9019s, the translucent red and translucent blue, neither have that cool heartbeat cut on their nibs. I wonder why, just on the green which is in my Amazon cart 😁 Also my converters don’t look like yours in your green translucent pen, look like the converters in the opaque.

I guess that at this point one more Jinhao pen won’t hurt particularly since Chris pointed out that new and soft heartbeat nib. I think the zig-zag slit may contribute to spread the tines a bit more than the straight slit. Thank you Chris for another good and well timed review. C

Chris, I wonder whether the differences in the converter material and other minor changes in the 9019 are due to different subcontractors, different factories, other factors, rather that updates or improvements to the design of the pen as new colors are added to the lineup. I don't plan to buy this one, as I've put myself on a strict "no new pens" diet for the year. This translates, so far, to my having gotten only four pens to date. Thanks, as always, for your insightful videos.

Could be many factors that add to differences in the models. It early in 2024, lots of time to buy some pens.

i definitely don't like dry pens, i use medium flow because i use cheap veitnam paper, generally, for writing poetry, and flows like that would bleed to the other side, however, i have found that to be a rare occurance. the u-style notebooks from veitnam are often really good. yesterday, i found a flowery composition notebook at walmart made in veitnam, it shows sheen, no bleeding, and my dark blue ink, i was testing de atramentis sherlock holmes, just barely ghosted, but laying flat, the page was white on the reverse side, so is that no ghosting, idk? @@chrisrap52

Nice review Chris. I could have sworn the nibs were available by themselves several weeks ago!! Now it seems the only way to get one is with a pen attached. Don't know if you have experience with another pen I have on the way, but one that is fascinating. The pen is a 3rd generation Oaso Automatic ink filling pen. I like the idea, but the question is does it live up to its advertised billing?? Cheers.

I have one from years ago. Never did a review, it did not excite me. Lets us know how you like yours.
@zeus524522 ай бұрын
@@chrisrap52 Here's an update on the Oaso saga. My order of the set on Feb 7th arrived Tues. 5 Mar. The ink bottle is a simple cone section with the filling valve & what seems to be a pump operated by the surrounding orange ring. The pen itself was updated with a flat finial on the cap & a springy metal clip. It is still a demonstrator model pen. The nib and the grip section are Lamy like and I got the fine instead of the extra fine nib. To fill it, I removed the cap, placed the end of the barrel in the inkwell opening over the filling needle and made sure it was fully seated. Then it was a simple matter of pressing the orange 'pump' wring down then letting it up again. The pen started to fill immediately after releasing the orange ring. When I wrote with it tonight, I was so surprised at how smooth it wrote. Not exactly a gusher, the pen is somewhat wet, and not super dry. I think that would be the function of the ink. At a cost of under $30.00 for the kit, I think it was worth adding to my collection. Cheers.

That nib looks like it might be TOO wet. Do you know the purpose of the heartbeat nib design? Is it just a neat- looking gimmick or does it have a real function, like promoting flow or adding flex? Just looking at it, my impression would be that it might increase drying out since the ink slit is much longer.
@chrisrap523 ай бұрын
First it is the look, unique. In the hisrory of fountain pens, a different nib is common. Nib works welll, no drying out. It appears to promote flow based on the standard M nib.

I will have to look for the heartbeat nib. Looks phenomenal. I did get the 9016. It is an extremely smooth writer with a touch of bounce. As for the rattling, it appeared on my 100 Skeleton. It was a bit annoying. The new converter for the 9016 and 9019 seems to fit snuggly. On the 9019 and 9016 there are flanges that hold the converter in place. Someone at Jinhao must have noticed, too. Very nice review, Chris.
