My mother was a coal miner in "Almost Heaven" WV. This song neatly summarizes my perspective. I normally avoid "magic" thinking, but Tati and co.'s immediate familiarity is...spooky.

Also without the relatively strong regulatory measures that have been put in place in the U.S. across all industries and specifically in the mining sector, deaths from coal outside the U.S. and western Europe are ~10x higher as a global average, and 17x higher in China. So it is probably even worse where they come from. :(
