real villain was grandma all along, telling him she died after he was stuck in a military campaign the 3 years (in LN) and keeping them apart so long when they had a chance

And didn't allow Maomao's uncle/adopted father to check and treated her when she at a treatable stage. But i read that in LN she supposed already dead in the current timeline. I guess the manga and anime wanted to give Lakan some closure.
