They stripped him of the title. He didn’t really have a choice lmao. If he had a choice to hold onto his belt why he recovers I’m sure he would. Actually, almost all ufc champions are stripped and forced to give up there belts when they’re injured or unable to fight for awhile. The only exception are the fighters like conor mcgregor would make the company to much money to strip.

I was just about to comment something similar: but where’s the line though man? Seems to be even more nuanced than just the superstars get to hold onto their belts when injured - look at Aljo! Really like the guy but, not a draw on the ppv side of things and held up the division a few times now…?

Jiri was made to be a UFC champion and has brought so much excitement to the light heavyweight division. He's my favorite fighter and truly an idol to me. Will continue to rewatch his fights while he is healing up and look forward to seeing him with the belt again.

Truth is if he wouldnt vacate he would get stripped. So its smart to vacate and do it on his terms. This is real champions mindset - you need to be smart o all levels and stay fair to the game. Hope he gets to recover fully very fast and gives us that fight with Jan in Europe one day.

That’s why I give it to Ngannou. Ngannou had a severe injury with his knee and still fought and won. He just didn’t vacate his belt. If Jiri pulled out, the Blachowicz and Ankalaev would have been ONLY an interim fight because champs have done this before. This man vacated his title so there is more to this. This is very strange and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was popped by USADA

I hope it's not a drug fail and injury is just a cover up story. He was being tested very closely by Usada, almost everyday. Dana White does hold that sort of clout that he can stop it from going public. But it's just a thought. Maybe it's actually an injury.... maybe not.

Yes I thought the same thing, seems like a suspiciously odd coincidence. Reminds me of when Manny Pacquiao requested to take a banned substance for his injured shoulder and he was denied. Then he said he fought with an injured shoulder and said it didn’t heal in time because he wasn’t allowed to take the drug.

Agreed. Many champs have pulled out of fights when they got injured. The only thing that happens is an interim belt is made. I can’t recall any champ that just vacates his belt because of an injury. Maybe the UFC directed him to do so because of his p1ssing hot
