That makes me so sad. The build up for “Jiara” was so sweet, but we waited for a long time patiently. Just to get so few scenes of them in S4 and that ending? they were soulmates. Through Kie, JJ experienced real love for the first time. She has shown him time and time again that she cares about him and loves him. He did too but it was hard for him to show it. And when he finally did, he got killed. The writers really pissed me off as a Jiara fan

I think the reason he was killed is because the actual actor wanted to leave the show and go move with his girlfriend or something so they had to get rid of him. Although I respect his decision it sucks the ending was to kill him. They could’ve made it to where he was forced to move away or something. I don’t know how I’m going to watch season five now knowing he is dead 😭

100%. Even with his recklessness, he is one of, if not THE most important pogue of the group. John B’s the leader, Sarah’s the kindhearted optimist, Pope’s the brains, Cleo is the street smart realist, and Kie’s the responsible “mom”. JJ is the HEART. Even when he messes up, the other pogues still love him and would do anything for him. He’s the dreamer who just wants a good life for the people around him. He’s the comedic relief, the loyal to a fault, the down for anything, walking definition of POGUE. If anyone else had died, yes they’d still get revenge. But his death will give them something real to fight for. It’s not just about the treasure anymore. It’s about fighting for the heart and soul and freedom that was taken away from them.

In my vast viewing and reading experience, I've never seen writers destroying an important and inspiring character arc (along with another character arc along the way - I'm looking at you, Kie, completely blinded and weakened by love somehow and unable to challenge her old friend and boyfriend of 18 months in any shape or form, meekly following him on his path of self-destruction) so mindlessly and clumsily. All throughout this season JJ's character is snapping at his friends for no reason, going in circles, repeating the same mistakes over and over again (as though his character's slow but steady growth in previous seasons didn't exist) and, which is the worst thing out of all, learning that his horrible family history will always be his fate. It's like a curse that have always been hanging over him, no matter what he did. It's a pretty terrifying message actually. And all of that just to make his death inevitable and drive home a point about the value of loyalty and true friendship! Really?!😖It's like seasons 1-3 and season 4 are two completely different shows... Some commenters keep talking about the importance of raising takes. Following the same logic, JK Rowling should have killed Ron Weasly or Hermione Granger to make the stakes real. Raising stakes for the sake of what exactly? To turn this show into a Shakespearean drama? If a serious, high stakes drama is what this show is now aspiring to, I don't think that these writers are up to the task... They should have stayed in their lane.

​@@visanana92I don't think the rumors are true. Rudy doesn't have any upcoming projects lined up, and the show will only continue for one more year. He could have easily negotiated staying in a more limited capacity. Unfortunately, there are hints throughout the show that the writers always saw this character more as a plot device to constantly add drama and shock value. Jiara (which, let's face it, was more of a fan creation than anything) added unintended depth to his character, but instead of building on it, the writers squandered the potential because it didn’t fit their vision for the story, plain and simple. Honestly, that explanation makes much more sense than actor drama, in my opinion. Fans might have other ideas-and personally, I would have loved to see a completely different version of Outer Banks-but it’s already obvious by season 3 that the creators have been constantly gunning for something more dramatic and ambitious. The problem is, this show worked best as small-town drama about a bunch of social outcasts with golden hearts.

@KalinaRotten i recently watched some videos about his girlfriend who was the assistant of the director and then got fired because she caused a lot of drama on set. Maybe it was pushed because of that. I saw that they said the plan was to kill him since the begining, but come on... eventually next season will make some ppl happy with Rafe and Kiara and the enemies to lovers trope. JJ was the most loved character and everything you said was true. The writing was very bad. Let's see what they will do in the last season... let's see what "fits" their vision

@@visanana92 Looking at other tone-deaf and questionable things happening this season-like making Pope, an African American man, attack a policeman, or forcing Sarah to get pregnant right after she declared she doesn’t want children yet-I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually tried to make Rafe and Kiara a thing.🥴Honestly, it I were the writer on this show, I'd make the Blue Crown magical and resurrect JJ with it just to prevent this toxic madness from happening. 🙄

I was disappointed too that JJ and Kie didn't have a lot of romantic scenes together. It wasn't what I expected at all. I was told a reason for that was because Rudy's girlfriend was always on set and was jealous of Rudy and Madison's friendship so she didn't want anything to happen between them which is kind of much. It's just a show and it's called acting.

I was so happy when JJ and Kiara finally became a couple after all the tension and chemistry they have. But I was really disappointed that they didn't get enough screen time as a couple compared to John B and Sarah. I know there was a reason for it and it's just stupid. jj's death was SO unnecessary. jiara had so much potential that was wasted, it's truly sad. outer banks was never the kind of show to kill off a main character, let alone a fan favorite, no matter how much the writers (and everyone else) say otherwise. such poor writing this season when it came to jj's storyline and when it came to jiara.
