Are you telling me, he hasn't learned that much in almost 3 years as a pro? When i turned 21, i started my 1st professional job. But i found out quickly, within the first year, about basic professional etiquette. I also agree that someone from the Pelicans should be communicating with Zion. I’m a US trained surgeon and I wouldn’t be so naive to think I know what that life is like as a nba pro basketball player. Not just any player - ZION. He’s an extremely gifted guy who is living away from home, and has no friends his age to kick it with that are close to him. He’s a kid with no one showing him what to do. No real solid vets on his team. No one for him to emulate on how to be a great pro. The closest one he had was Lonzo, and he’s gone. That’s why teams need consummate pros like JJ, Taj Gibson, Eric Gordon, Steven adams, etc to show the young guys what to do. The pelicans didn’t have it until now with CJ. Some guys “get it,” and some dont. The ones that don’t get it need a little more push, more support, more guidance. There’s nothing wrong with that.

His family has alot of influence in his decisions. He's overweight and two surgeries. His willingness to stay in shape will be his downfall. Sometimes fame and money makes a person content. It's really sad He's been put on a pedestal since high school. 😪

Idk man. I’m not that fond of Zion as a star ⭐️

I agree, JJ Reddick acts like Zion is the owner of the team. If Zion was an older player I would agree but this guy is only 21 years old, has barely played and has no leadership skills! Let's stop trying to make this kid into something he's not and let it happen naturally. It may never happen but right now he's still young

Texting someone is acting like he owns the team?? Zion cant do nothing wrong its so funny its always the team or the familly…. Dude is a big baby cant say hi to someone… im the same age its not hard to be around the team/ teamates.. you usaly work on your injury at the facillities…. But zion just go away doesnt talk to anyone

If you left your job cuz your sick/injured and then just stop taking or picking up your managers call…. Thats the companys fault right? Its not your fault….. like cmon im 22 ive had jobs at 17 you learn leadership by acc being a good person pretty simple, if it aint zions way then he pouts

They just letting Zion completely off the hook, disrespecting cj as if he not good, just sucking the skin off Zion it make no sense and how come we don’t ever hear from his big ass it’s always his team or his mom he need to get his act together and grow up be a grown ass man for once and stand on some front instead of hiding in the shadows like a lil boy

I think Zion Needs change and needs a fresh start problem is he hasn't produced so teams might not want to take a risk on him and I feel the pelicans aren't the organization for him. When he was on the court he was dope. Feel like he needs to lock in get right mentally it can be tough dealing with the pressures of being the face of a franchise. Everyone wants that title its another thing to embrace it.
@riclee95042 жыл бұрын
I hate to say it but I already think he's done. His frame just makes it impossible to stay in BB shape. Sure he'll bounce around the league for awhile but I see Larry Johnson all over again
@EnZo79922 жыл бұрын
Ok yeah it’s understandable that he didn’t reach out to CJ because he’s away from the team and preoccupied with his injury/rehab, and he’s only 21 so maybe not ready to take on that team leader role I get that, if he was just any other player but…he’s not just any other player, he’s a former #1 pick chosen to be the franchise player for a team, in turn that makes the Pelicans “his team”. His team to lead and to elevate towards greatness, and to top it all of about to be making over 200 mil. When your that guy, a call, text or any kind of communication to reach out to a new teammate needs to happen.

Zion should have pulled a Kobe and demanded a trade on draft night.

I thought the Lakers told the Hornets in advance to draft him with the expectation that a trade involving Vlade Divac would ensue to free up the cap space to sign Shaq.

Not about being friendly, its about being a NBA professional, being a team leader (or pretending to act like one) to his teammates both old and new. Zion Williamson is young, inexperienced and immature (doesn't know any better) hasn't learned how to do that yet.... if it was only a text message or phone call to newest teammate and veteran NBA player CJ McCollum, that would have been good enough. When Zion returns to the Pelicans, guess who is going to be the new team captain and leader of the Pelicans? CJ McCollum hands down. If Zion doesn't want to no longer be a NO Pelican (he was highly disappointed 3 years ago he wasn't drafted by the New York Knicks) and in his mind, scheming/plotting a way to get traded while still under contract with the Pelicans and using his foot injury issues as an excuse a la Anthony Davis did to get forced traded to the Lakers, then it's really not about the New Orleans Pelicans basketball team/organization, it is about the top NBA drafted players who never wanted to be there in the first place and wanted to play for teams in the biggest NBA marketing franchises/championship teams like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas etc for the bigger bring lights of the fans, popularity, exposure and more financially lucrative off the basketball court, money making opportunities. Zion wants to be forced traded to the Knicks (despite not being a NBA free agent) so he can play with his former Duke University teammates Cam Reddish and RJ Barrett....Zion never wanted to be a New Orleans Pelican and his negative attitude certainly shows it.

The owners should make a rule if u ask for a trade u go to base minimum money and not eligible for more money for 3 seasons.. im tired of these dudes trynna link up to win.. jus get ya team n beat my team without setting the deck smh

It didn’t cross Zion’s mind to call CJ because he’s detached. No need to defend Zion in this case. He’s old enough to know etiquette.

@mikemills40072 жыл бұрын
Can Rob stop comparing working on a freaking radio show to playing in the NBA? Who cares if some of your producers aren’t friendly and detached. This is a professional sports league where hundreds of millions of dollars and peoples jobs are on the line. He’s 21. Not 16. He’s old enough to realize the mistakes he’s making and how to improve his situation no matter how slight

GTFOH Zion has told those people don’t call me I’ll call you and he has everyone in the building on eggshells

Remember LeBron had to be taught by Dwayne Wade on how to win and how to talk to the media. So Zion needs someone to teach him
@datsapaddlin2 жыл бұрын
Lebron ain’t need to be taught how to win or talk the media. He needed a better cast and front office. He was already a 2 time MVP that got to the finals the team just had a ceiling. I’d say he had to be taught to be less unselfish trying to make sure he ain’t step on Wades toes their first year together. When Wade said don’t worry about me getting mine he took over and became MVP and finals MVP. He was trying to be to passive because that was Wades team first. He never would do like Zion and get outta shape and leave the team during the season though.

@jharne12 жыл бұрын
Good and bad takes by Rob and Chris on this. Bad take by Rob on the Pelicans not being a viable franchise, this on the players, as Chris said, not wanting to be here and wanting to be in bigger markets (LA and NY). You saw Tim Duncan get drafted by San Antonio and stay his entire career and win and is now considered the greatest PF of all time. More recently we are watching Giannis in Milwaukee want to stay and build his own legacy there. Make the impact you're suppose to make as a top 3 draft pick and top player in the NBA and turn the franchise around. The fame and attention will come. NOLA is a city that will love you double if you love it back. Get healthy, become a professional and LET'S DANCE Z!!!

Well, I mean..is it safe to say Zion Williams does NOT Love Basketball? That’s my guess in following this narrative of how he takes care or not care of himself. It’s either that or he’s trying to pull a James Harden and force his way out. 🤷🏾♂️ IJS
