Helmets “looked dumb” back when they played with leather caps, then face masks looked dumb when they went from a single or double bar, etc. Man hockey goalies used to take 90mph pucks straight to the face, and the first person to wear a mask was fearlessly mocked, until he won a Stanley cup🤷‍♂️ once people get used to the look, they don’t look dumb

It's not guaranteed to be safer. It makes the head a bigger target and can cause the player to take more strikes to the head during team tackles. How big can helmets get before the size in itself is a hazard too? People need to stop obsessing over making a dangerous game safe. It's inherently dangerous and can only be helped if extreme changes are made, and no one wants to see the league get ruined by excessive safety driven rule changes. Stop feeding into the nfl safety charade. No one wants it to be perfectly safe, cause if so, the game will be ruined. The danger of football is part of the excitement. The physicality of football is something that fans adore. Leave the game alone

This this exactly what happened to me my sophomore year playing football. I got hit & my knee completely snapped backwards. Within 1 min my left leg I swelled up to 2x the size of my other leg & I lost all feeling in my toes. They rushed me to the ER straight from the field training room & performed emergency surgery. Turns out I had what’s called compartmental syndrome where one of my arteries was severed when my leg snapped & I was basically bleeding out internally. They said if they didnt do the surgery within that time they wouldve had to amputate my leg. On top of that I tore PCL, LCL, MCL & Meniscus & fractured my tibia. Regardless I came back next season & ended my junior year with 3 D1 offers. Not tryna flex, this is just a message to all my athletes, you can bounce back from any injury if u put your mind to it & trust the process 🫡 much love

Love the Alanis Deal. You should see what he wants for an extension. You should strongly consider it if it’s in the ~15 million max value range. While you had him, I certainly wanted you to play Boakye over Ackley, but in your current situation I think it’s time to trade Boakye. Cozart is a good backup option, but if you’re comfortable with it I think promoting from AAA is what I’d do. If Ackley gets injured, who would you want to play?

If the guardian cap can extend your career by a year, or two, that’s millions man. If I had an issue with concussions I would absolutely to keep playing ball

There were 2 baseball players who were not wearing batting helmets when they retired in the mid 70’s due to being grandfathered, Norm Cash & I believe Tony Taylor.

if it's gotten to the point where some players don't feel safe unless they wear extra padding on top of their helmet then that just means helmets aren't good enough and need to be improved

I think the NFL will use their allowance of guardian caps in game to protect themselves against future CTE lawsuits. Tons of guys opting out of wearing them because of the optics.

IMO, head injuries would drop if they didnt have so many pads everywhere else on the body. The helmets are absolutely necessary but maybe if they weren’t decked out in padding they wouldn’t hit so hard and would get hurt less.

It’s people who have never played a contact sport in their lives who are criticizing this stuff. As an ex pro athlete, if you care about your appearance more than your well-being, health, and longevity you’re obviously in the wrong place. This isn’t a beauty pageant or runway, it’s fucking football and concussions fucking suck, I’ve had my fair share and genuinely wish I had the opportunity to have these when I was playing. Head injuries and concussions changed my life and people don’t take these kinds of things serious enough, it’s all fun and games until the effects hit you before you can acknowledge them, you’re better safe than sorry no matter how much the difference don’t be stupid.

Obviously if there is a concussion problem in the NFL the helmets aren't working. Actually the helmets may be the problem. They should probably wear something more akin to boxing sparring headgear.

All linemen should wear it. No need to look good when no one pays attention. They’re the most important part of football, but the camera follows the ball, not the trenches. With down hill run blocking, it’s almost inevitable you’re going to bang your head against a defender in one way or another.

Idk will help for sure! But i dont see it having an impact on your neck which is the main thing that causes a concussion. That whiplash motion will end you. I dont see how this will make a big difference especially when a human is running at another human full speed. That neck is still going to wiplash hopefully enough protection to protect your head from the smash but idk how well.

Looking beyond this year, everyone playing will soon wear it, especially if it helps with the concussion issue. People still really don’t get it. I played tackle football from age 9 up through college. The concussions that count are way less than the actually concussions that happen. In other words, they happen way more frequently than people even know, as early as little league, Jr. High, etc. Worrying about how it looks is definitely not a reason to not be safer if it works.
